Read fleetingly in T'Independent today that there is a whole new series of Battlestar Calactica starting on Sky soon. Anyone know anything about it and if it ever gonna be on terrestrial??????

There was a four part mini-series that was shown in the US last year (on the Sci-fi channel) that has been picked up for a series (well, half a series anyway - 11 episodes).
The mini-series was shown on Sky and released on DVD (for the bargain price of £9.99!). I was expecting to have another one of my childhood memories spat on by some gimp in a suit who wanted to re-image it, but in this case I think they have actually pulled it off - thanks largely to an excellent cast. The only real let down was a lack of robotic Cylons. You can find out a truck load more about it here. Boomer was quite cute, and a definite improvement on the original (looks wise anyway!). |

 If you haven't seen the mini-series, it's getting a repeat on Sky One starting this week and it's well worth a look. An ex Star Trek guy has a hand on it but not in a bad way - you can tell he's had a chance to let loose outside of that quite rigid genre and the effects work is very nicely done too, interesting docu-style to the way the camerawork's done. It's worth a shout on DVD if you don't have Sky, I think - it's remarkably well done for what has in fact turned out to be a pilot.

The whole thing must have slipped under the Bloom radar!! I'll try checking out the dvd (or get someone to tape it off Sky)

The first episode of the mini-series is repeated this Thursday on Sky One at 9pm. Once the mini-series has screened, Sky One will then show a new 13-part series, which hasn't even aired in the States yet.
I actually really liked the mini-series, which may be because I only occasionally watched the original and had no great investment in it. |

Ahh thanks
 i really liked the original series but to be honest can't remember much about it after the first 3 episodes or so. it's on the ever expanding 'to watch' section on the bookcase.

I imagine Sky One Mix will repeat it if you miss it on Sky One as well. The Lowdown is worth catching as well although it'd spoil the mini-series somewhat, but you have been warned and I don't know if they'll show it again before the series starts.
