QUOTE (melzilla @ Feb 15 2008, 07:56 PM) They have a track record that had me expecting nothing less. I find myself more willing to see gigs I know will be great - Morrissey, Guitar Wolf, Godfathers, Jesus & Mary Chain - than trying something new. I know I will be missing out on some, but I don't think many. |

I just enjoy seeing bands or artists that really love to perform and are clearly enjoying what they're doing. Some bands I've seem just don't seem to care about performing and seem to just churn out another tour because it says so in their record contract.

Went to see Reel Big Fish last night at the Academy in Manchester.
Just one of the most fun bands ever. Any band that has an entire room jumping around with grins on their faces for an hour and a half (without pumping some sort of mind-altering gas into the room) is excellent by me! |

Smashing Pumpkins at the O2
Someone needs to tell Billy Corgan he's a retro act now. The crowd was filled with men of about my age who, as far as I could make out, wanted to relive their dog end of grunge teenage years, aching for it to be a good gig, and Corgan refused to let us. I haven't been in a mosh pit for a goodly long time and for about a third of it it was a glorious rememberance but for the rest of the gig everything slumped to a halt as Corgan wanked himself to a slow oily climax on stage. The ressentment as the lights came up was palpable. Why refuse to play Zero when the crowd begged for it again and again? What a cock. |

But he used to sing songs I liked. Or had heard before.
Edit: Having just read the Pumpkins wikipedia page, and finding out that two people died at their gigs, I feel a bit bad for the moshing abscence critcism now. This post has been edited by empathy-with-beast: Feb 18 2008, 10:52 PM |

seen quite a few things over the last week;
lake me - nice and math-rocky, singy-songy. drummer with a bee-hive, swedish singer guitar girl. chippewa falls - like a mini-pops, female 'mogwai'. shoe-gazey... the enablers - wanky almost-metal masquerading as post-rock, with some american poet thinking he's wonderful. 'wake up! dead man...', the only line that still haunts me, sums up the shitness... quack quack - brilliant. a drummer, a bass player and a drummer / synth player. imagine a set based upon live renditions of 'bug in the bassbin'. felix kubin - german electro, with a nice silliness. ace. you could even say that i was almost dancing... tigers! - one of my favourite, super-fun, leeds bands... off to see kathryn williams tonight... |

Incidentally, thanks again for the last minute ticket, Jon - and indeed thanks to your brother, for not being able to make it after all. Either way, it was so worth the mad dash after work to get there by the skin of my teeth!
