Can't play the sound as I'm at work but it looks fecking awesome, and the bit where he's flung into the distance is just like the book haha.

So what do we (the internet) think? I think it's going to be a total rush with all the humour and energy of Edgar's previous work... If it was an original piece or I didn't know the comics I'd say it looks awesome.

But it ain't Scott Pilgrim. I love the comics dearly but the style of the adaptation doesn't fit! It looks more dark and atmospheric than I ever saw Pilgrim's world; banal and everyday at least until things go pow! Of course there is a heavy emphasis on the fight scenes in the trailer but I hope the slice-of-life mundanity of the comics has not been lost for "Nick & Norah meets Kick Ass".

The books are something that I think are impossible to fully translate to film. I'd say it looks faithful to the source material with some added Edgar Wright excellence thrown in, and in a rare instance he may have actually gotten Michael Cera to act instead of delivering every line in that tedious monotone he's patented.

Looks spot on to me. But then comics are more open to interpretation than film.

The film was always likely to be A different beast from the comics.

As Whitey has said they're open to interpretation. Luckily it's Edgar Wright directing it. He's a big fan and probably one of the least likely people to fuck it up.

As long as Cera isn't all monotonous throughout it should be good.

As for content apparently books 1 to 4 are adapted almost to the book, and 5 and 6 are Wright's own vision of it.

Now I've seen the trailer I'm a lot more hopeful it'll be awesome.

"Nick & Norah meets Kick Ass".

It did look a bit like that. I don't know anything about the books and after seeing the trailer the only thing really making me want to watch the film is Edgar Wright. I liked the fighting parts but the talking parts looked a bit iffy and not really my thing.

I see what you mean, but I thought that the essence of the comic translated quite well. It seems to really capture the idiosyncratic, computer games-meets-manga spirit of the fight-sequences, and the quieter moments seemed in keeping with my personal vision of the comic. It's hard to tell from that short teaser, but it looks to me like Edgar has brought a cinematic sensibility to the story, which is preferable to the Zack Snyder school of slavishly recreation.

I'll agree with that.
The trailer's there to get bums on seats. I have faith the film will have the perfect amount of banality and stylised action.
Having said that, I won't be that arsed - as I've not read the comics. I'll judge the film on it's own merits without having to compare it to another medium.
It's looking great though.

This is like Edgar's first film ...or first Hollywood film. Throughout his career he's always made something with his mates. This is a bit of a landmark.

I've watched that trailer three times now and when it kicks in I absolutely love it. However, Micheal Cera is not acting how I hear and see Scott in the comics. He's quieter and more subdued. I imagine Scott as more nervous yet energetic and that's the only thing that concerns me about this.

I saw Scott in the Comics as sort-of neurotic in places, at some points hyperactive and for the most part cheerful.

The one things that concern me about Cera is the scenes where they're at Sneaky Dees or in the house where they practice, basically the quieter moments that rely on Scott being enthusiastic and full of energy without bouncing off the walls, he doesn't seem to be the enthusiastic type I saw Scott as. I hope he proves me wrong.

Realized I hadn't commented on the trailer yet.

I've already watched it more times than I'd care to admit, and I think it looks AH-MAZING. I'm a big fan of the books, and think it looks like the spirit of the books has been transferred to the screen perfectly. And not only do I think Michael Cera will do well in the role, I'm hoping the film will silence some of the Cera haters.
