About 10 years ago I saw about 10 minutes of a film from the 70's that had Harvey Keitel in.
During that 10 minutes someone says a line similar to 'You dream of beating me, you'd better wake up and apologise'.
...I know this was originally a quote by Mohammad Ali, and Keitel says a similar line in Reservoir Dogs... But I don't think keitel says it in the movie I saw. (I remember thinking at the time to the similarity of the reservoir dogs quote)

Anyhoo, for years I thought the film I was thinking of was Mean Streets (and it still may be)... but I watched it last night, and the line didn't come up.

Any ideas what the film was? Or is my memory playing tricks on me? .

I can only think of the Reservoir dogs line "You shoot me in a dream, wake up and apologise." . Soz.

Might it have been something like Blue Collar? Something that was at least partially racially charged and would be likely to paraphrase Ali?

Bad Lieutenant?

The film definitely looked earlier than 1992.

This seems a likely candidate. Even if it's not, looks like it could be worth a watch.

It's really, really good. Worth watching if only for a rare dramatic performance by Richard Pryor.

Yeah, watch Blue Collar.

Did the film have Bill Cosby and Raquel Welch in it?

Not sure. I think De Niro was in it too. ... I was certain it was Mean Streets... particularly one of the scenes by the bar. Maybe I saw a different cut of the film.

The 'or something' I was thinking of was 'Mother, Jugs & Speed'. So, I wasn't far off then.
