I'm in need of all your opinions.
I’m doing a project at college entitled ‘TV Commission’ where I have to basically do everything to create a good TV programme. I’d just like some of your opinions on the programmes above. So, if you could answer the poll question and also give me a quote or a short opinion of the programmes you watched, and what you thought about them, I would be eternally grateful. Programmes: Lead Balloon Green Wing I Am Not An Animal Men Behaving Badly |

Men Behaving Badly
Eminently rewatchable, the British sitcom that defined a decade. |

Likewise.
The other shows all have their moments, I Am Not An Animal is really underrated, but Men Behaving Badly was and still is immensely funny. |

MBB, dor me, doesn't bear repeated viewing. It's not the apothesis of 'lad' TV as some claim, and did have some genuinely funny moments, and a class performer in Clunes, but it's appeal has somewhat dimmed in this household.

Men Behaving Badly - no show has managed to make blokeishness both so appealing and off-putting at the same time, and it stands up well to repeated viewing.
Not seen Lead Balloon - my brother was working at Open Mic while it was being developed, and it sounded good, but can't ascertain much else from that. Green Wing is dire - overlong, rambling twaddle that relies on silly camera tricks and substituting weirdness for actual jokes. It's like a really bad indie film every week. I missed I'm Not An Animal, but I since watched it on DVD and could only stomach two episodes before I had to switch it off. The animation and character design made me want to retch, the characters were all immensely unlikeable and, again, it relied too much on being overly quirky rather than being funny. |

'Men Behaving Badly' has the same effortless quality of something like 'Friends'. It's well written and performed, without being too taxing on the brain. That's probably why if I was flicking channels and came across it, I would stop and watch it (even if it was the camping episode that I've seen about 35 times).
It also has some emotional resonance, I care about the characters and when Gary and Dorothy split up (every other episode) it can be very poignant. That's true of Friends too. |

I have a problem with Caroline Quentin. I don't care about her ergo I don't care about any of her characters.

QUOTE (luvmusic @ Dec 18 2006, 12:28 PM) I have a problem with Caroline Quentin. I don't care about her ergo I don't care about any of her characters. She is awful isn't she? Why does she always play fiesty single mothers in a difficult profession? I care about Gary and Tony ten times more than I care about Dorothy and Deborah, but then I am terribly sexist. I'm moving this to it's natural home in 'Media'. |

Lead Balloon - crappy...
Green Wing - only watched half of one episode, but i didn't like it... I Am Not An Animal - i love this. it's very, very funny and criminally ignored, although hmv's decsion to include it in their 'classic dvds for children' sale is a little confusing... Men Behaving Badly - it's okay. some good bits, some bad bits. not something i would choose to watch... |

The hsow is essentially about them so it's hardly surprising that Dorothy and Deborah are cosnidered lesser characters in their own sitcom.
