God, stuff like that genuinely makes my blood boil.

It's their smug expressions as they vomit out the laundry list of overused and blatenty incorrect 'facts' about gaming, laughing off his reasonable and valid responses as the audience applauds feeding their inflated egos further.

It just absolutely makes me sick to my stomach.

At least the fool cockblocking R18+ games in Australia has stepped down now. That stuff does make me quite angry.

Finished God of War 3. I'll probably write more later but needless to say it was fucking amazing from start to finish. Going to playthrough on very hard next...

I've been playing the StarCraft 2 multiplayer beta quite a bit recently, and really enjoying it. Much to my surprise. I expected to feel a bit "meh" about it, as I have done about MP RTS in the past, but having now learned the ropes (after an extended period of getting horribly, horribly beaten down) I'm starting to get a real feel for it and enjoy it.

I feel exactly the same about this. I just want to punch that stupid woman's smug, ignorant face.

Every response she made was to the tune that video games are addictive and turn kids into killers - two "facts" which, while there is some anecdotal evidence for, I don't believe a word of.

I've been playing violent games since I was a kid (admittedly, I didn't play the likes of GTA then, because they didn't interest me. I still played all manner of FPS titles and so on). I manage to go through my day without knifing any old women in the face.

I think of it like this - people who play GTA and then kill people (if this even happens at all - personally I think it's a load of shit), are no different to kids who put on Superman capes and jump off buildings expecting to fly. You have to have some problem blurring reality and fantasy to do either. And if you do, is that the game makers' fault? No more so than if I were to get drunk and run over and kill someone, and blame Guiness, or Ford. That wouldn't fly in court, so why do video game excuses? Oh that's right - they don't. Look at Jack Thompson (was that his name?) and his actual record. He never won any of those high-profile anti-GTA trials. None of them.

If a court of law sees nothing in it, that means there's nothing in it. Sadly, people like that woman (whoever she is) will continue to prattle on on a subject she feels she's an expert in without any knowledge of the topic whatsoever other than scaremongering gossip.

I take your point regarding the possible anti-game implications of the article. However, judging by my own experience, I think there is truth to some of what the author writes. Games like television, drugs, collecting football stickers or whatever can be addictive for some people. In defending games I don't think we should feel the need to sanitise their vast potential and variety including the effects they can have on players. It should be our right to play what we want regardless if Keith Vaz or Alan Titchmarsh disapprove, perhaps with some broad moral caveats. We don't need their approval.

I think the piece is on the Guardian website firstly because it is well written and insightful, we may well disagree there, but also that it illustrates that games can hold a serious near-existential fascination for high minded ponces rather than just the stereotypical teenager, social misfit, or asian person.

I agree with you on this one, the article has negative points about gaming yes, but it wasn't from some uneducated prat with a chip on their shoulder pointing fingers, we have to take the bad with the good here - sometimes people get themselves wound up into a lifestyle where things we love without issue can become harmful, at no point was he really blaming anyone else but himself, he loves games but for him they had a downside because of other factors. I didn't once feel he was attacking gamers or the games industry.

It's one thing to hate the twats like Titschmarsh who have no clue And arguments against their sheer stupidity are welcomed but another to start poopooing all stories with a negative aspect.

GameCrush says it modeled its pricing structure after the cost of buying a girl a drink at a bar. In a bar, you're basically buying the opportunity to chat a girl up. GameCrush is hoping players will look at their service the same way.

It is sad, but I am actually tempted to sign up as a PlayDate. I think I'll wait to see what happens when it goes live first though...

Do it.

As a guy though, I mean really, if you're at that stage just blow your money on a Cam girl & play the game afterwards in a haze of endorphins & remorse.

Tell me about it... but hey, money for me for something I do anyway! Well, except for the "flirty" part.

I'll wait to see exactly how many desperate nerds there are out there first though.
