Hi all,
Here's my experience of the 1st time I saw "Shaun of the Dead". I was visiting my brother & nephew in Canada, with my mother & sister in Oct 2004. (I live in Melbourne, Australia). One night we all decided to see a movie, but there wasn't much worth seeing. I'd seen a TV review of SOTD before we left Melbourne, so I wanted to see it; & somehow we managed to talk my Mum into seeing it! Now, my Mum (who we all love dearly; she's a bit like Barbara) isn't a fan of either horror or excessive swearing in movies. But, like a trooper she sat through it, with the occasional "Oh yuk" at the gory bits. Then it came to that shockingly emotional part of the movie where Shaun has to shoot his Mum. I was on the edge of my seat, eyes slightly misty, & swept up in the moment. (I'd also decided by this stage that Simon Pegg was now one of my fave actors. Due to living in Australia, this was the 1st thing I'd seen him in!) Then, Shaun shot his Mum & there was that few seconds of shocked silence (you all know what I'm talking about). Anyway, my brother chose that moment to turn to our Mum & say in a really loud voice so the whole cinema could hear, "I'd do that for you, Mum!" Well, it broke the tension, & I spent the next few minutes trying not to giggle too loudly! I still love the drama of that part of SOTD, but I'll always have a little smile as well, remembering that comment. My brother is one of the funniest people I know! Well, just thought I'd share. I've been collecting anything I can that Simon's in, ever since. He's awesome! Must go. Feel the love. dolfyn. |
