Two fairly recent vampire updates duke it out...

FROM DUSK 'TIL DAWN
Couple of robbing brothers take some hostages and hole up in a bar full of sexy bloodsuckers. Features a Natural Born Killer and a bloke who used to get his knob out in films.

BLADE
Half human, half vampire beats up lots of other vamps while sporting a dodgy 80s-ish haircut. Features a Beatle and a woman who was famous for getting blokes' knobs out (and in, and out, and in...) in films.

Get votin' suckers.

Blade. Everything that was good about The Matrix before The Matrix and it was the first to buck the trend of godawful comic book adaptations. From Dusk... is fun but it's just a splatter movie tribute, not a great film in it's own right.

As much as I loved Blade, From Dusk Til Dawn had the line "If you can find pussy for cheaper... FUCK IT!"

As much as I enjoy the action and look of Blade, its the stupid, over the top comedy action of Dawn that gets my vote. Sex Machine's codpiece pistol is one of my top comedy action moments.

Chet's speech still cracks me up.

"Hey, what have we got here? A new flavour - apple-pie pussy!"

I dunno, I haven't watched either film in a long time. However, at the moment I'd sway towards FDTD, simply because it was so OTT, and didn't take itself quite so seriously.

Pretty much my feelings too, despite FDTD having both Tom Savini & Fred Williamson. Oh, and Cheech Marin playing three characters is always a good thing. Blade is still more fun though.

I'm going Blade. Wasn't especially enamoured of Dusk til Dawn. It's ok.

I was enamoured of the line:

Alright vampire killers, let's kill some fucking vampires.

I'm going for Blade too. As whitey says, it was doing The Matrix pre-The Matrix, is is one of the best comic-book movies, getting the balance of fantasy and realism just right. The climax with the bubblegum god is a bit shit, but Snipes' martial arts cool, and the slick, dark atmosphere makes up for it.

I found Dusk more enjoyable on second viewing, but it suffers from several Tarantino-isms like that laboured chatty dialogue, too much swearing, and pointless violence. The change between road movie and vampire horror is interesting, but makes the film messy.

It is but that's an effects issue really. Bit more cash and they would have pulled it off.

Both open well. Both have their moments. Like them both about the same for different reasons.

I know quite a few people who saw it when it came out and had no idea whatsoever that it turned into a vampire film. Bit envious that they had that experience.

You must have a preference, you can't possibly have liked them exactly the same.

I don't like your game Britney's dead and I've got to get off with a duck.

...or Sharon Stone

Christ, I remembered that exact line last night in the pub and nearly wet myself.
