All right, all right, all right. I know what you're thinking. The answer's OBVIOUSLY no. Unfortunately, not everyone I ask says that! Adults and middle-schoolers alike, we're equally devided on this issue. Almost literally 50/50, actually! So, what's you're view? Can a dog lift its head up to a 90 degree (or close enough) angle that it can see up while it's standing? None of that sitting and howling at the moon gargabe, because their spine is aligned with their head, and technically they're just looking forward. Another rule is, no looking with their eyes! It's head while standing or nothing!
Got some proof they can look up? I'd love to see it! Until then, I'm STILL believing they can't. Also note: We're not talking about wolves, we're talking about dags. Normal, ordinary, bow-bow dags. Go! This post has been edited by _Pufferfish_: Dec 9 2005, 10:58 PM |

I'd have to say that was between a 50- to 70-degree angle... and that dog has a huge neck (seriously very long, it's funny) so it's cheating. ;D
I don't know if that picture, while hilariously cute, is enough to convince me otherwise... This post has been edited by _Pufferfish_: Dec 10 2005, 02:05 AM |

Well the camera isn't direct from the side, so it might be a larger angle.

Anyways, let's hear some response from some more people with more evidence to prove or disprove my stolen theory! |

Well, our dog can rest it's head flat on the floor and she rolls her eyes upwards to watch someone walk by without lifting or turning her head from the floor. She particularly scans your movements with just her eyes if you have a yogurt pot she could potentially lick clean. Or a bit of cheese. Or a choc-ice wrapper. Or a wooden clothes peg. Or a pidgeon on the fence. Just about anything really.
So dogs can look up. Just ain't got any photos. She's too quick. Wife Of Rolex This post has been edited by Wife Of Rolex: Dec 10 2005, 03:26 AM |

I'm pretty sure dogs can look up, the obviously cant move their head at a 90 degree angle, but can u? Can't everyone look up without without having their head like that so why cant a dog.
P.S. I have no idea thats just my theory, but it is hard to go against what Big Al says |

If anyone has seen the new Narnia film then there is a great example of dogs/wolves not being able to look up.

When I am coming home for christmas I will take the family dog and pull his head up till it won't move anymore... Wonder what PETA says to that... Maybe I should pull the head of my dog... don't know. But it's maybe a little snap in the neck, but a giant leap for mankind... No, I don't hurt anymals... ahhh animals...
AND YOU WON'T NEITHER! |

Hey newbie here!
I took a pic of my dog looking up at me. Hes in a sit position and looking straight up. He aslo does it when hes standing on all fours. So I guess its true that Dogs can look up. :\

To be fair what do dogs have to look up for anyway apart from owners with cameras, giant eagles, flying bones, comets, seagulls, cats in zeppelins, Great Danes, kites, weather balloons, satellites and planets about to crash into the Earth?

Maybe when Nick Frost began all this when filming Spaced he was thinking of pigs which cannot actually look up
At least that's what Big Al says This post has been edited by Splamge: Jan 9 2006, 12:50 PM |
