I'm not going to vote but if you read the list from top to bottom it really does mirror my opinion over time while drinking.

Only about a quarter of it, though. He sold half in the 90s and then sold more of it after the trial.

He helped that tainting further by allowing 'Revolution' to be used for a trainers ad in the states.

Yeah, he probaly accidentally spunked on it whilst flicking through the Woolworth's Ladybird clothing range catalogue.

Or

Yeah, he probaly accidentally spunked on it whilst looking at a photograph of the youngest one from Hanson.

I'm not sure which is funnier.

It's not particularly good that my mind went to either of those places is it?

That is incorrect.

During the nineties he merged it with part of the Sony catalogue in order to create the Sony/ATV catalogue, which they each currently own 50% of. However, half of his share is his stake against a $300million loan he took out with the Bank of America in the early 00's. Only if he fails to pay that loan back will he lose any of that catalogue. The catalogue currently comprises of everything from Elvis to Alicia Keys.

QUOTE

The catalogue was auctioned.

The only reason Paul McCartney doesn't own it is that whilst Michael Jackson was bidding, McCartney was dicking around asking Yoko Ono to go halves with him. He was too tight to buy his own music, then when Jackson won the auction he bitched and whined like it was some sort of injustice.

You do not win something unfairly at auction. You put in the highest bid and you win. McCartney wouldn't fork out the dough and he's pissed off now because the catalogue has become infinitely more valuable over the last two decades. It's worth billions of dollars now.

McCartney is such an embittered and foolish old man now anyway that I would delight in seeing Jackson allow Leona Lewis to cover all their number ones for her debut album, just to see how he reacted.

Although, McCartney and Jackson were recently spotted conversing with each other at James Brown's private funeral, though I don't know why McCartney was invited to that. So perhaps McCartney got off his high horse and learnt his lesson. If he's still alive the next time those songs go up for auction, maybe he'll get his wallet out. If not, it'll just be somebody else with a bit of business sense that he's griping over.

If you know of any other artists who sold 104million copies of a single album - who have sold over 750million records - who won eight grammies in one night and have won musical accolades an any other artists in history - and who own eight guinness world records, I'd be intrigued to hear who that is.

Elvis never wrote a single hit song in his career. He was plucked from his country western background by white music bosses who wanted to use him as a vehicle to bring a new black genre, rock and roll - being pioneered by the likes of Chuck Berry (who wrote his own material, by the way) - to the white masses.

His people used to abuse poor black songwriters, ie. Otis Blackwell, who were so hard up for cash that they would sell their songs for a miniscule, one off payment and never recieve royalties in any way, shape or form. Most of Elvis Presley's hits were written by poor black songwriters who died penniless, often in the streets. They never even got writing credits for several years.

A dynamic performer he may have been, but he was not an artist. He was a puppet employed by bigoted record companies to hijack black music. To even mention him in the same breath as somebody like Jackson is disgustingly shortsighted.

There have been artists who have had a more prfound influence on music, but I didn't say there weren't. What I said was that his achievements were unequalled, which is correct.

This is actually very difficult to do since three of the biggest selling albums of all time, Pink Floyd's The Wall and Dark Side Of The Moon and The Beatles The White Album were all released before accurate methods of telling sales were devised i.e. before barcodes were introduced on all records. It is generally believed that Dark Side Of The Moon is the most successful album of all time but we can never really be sure.
