Good question!
I went for Sam Vimes. He may pretend to be a cynical bastard, but underneath he's a good man you can count on to do the right thing. For me he feels most like a real person, one you would like to know. |

Where is Mort?
I like him because due to him Death disappeared for a bit. -m0r |

It has to be Death, he's just so cool and very humerous.

I went for Mustrum Ridcully, although I'm finding it hard to describe exactly why... There's just something hilarious about every part of the stories that he appears in.
Personally I find Sam Vimes a rather boring character these days. I've just started reading Thud today, and he just seems a bit dull to me. |

I've only read a couple of books, but Death is still the best.

I voted for Death but I was drunk and had my arm twisted by my flatmate. Actually I'm going to stick with that decision although I do like Vimes a lot. He'd be second with Rincewind probably in third.
EDIT Who voted Other - which character did you opt for? This post has been edited by Sir_Robin_the_brave: Oct 2 2005, 10:27 AM |

Hmm, tough question.
I went for Vimes in the end since I really love the way that his character has been formed over the years and as Chapman Baxter pointed out he does seem to be the most real chapter. The thing that really pushed me into voting for him as opposed to Death (who was a very close second) was the thing in Thud! about how is so worried about what would happen to Young Sam and how things had been going so well for him that they had to eventually go wrong and I particularly love the meotion Pratchett conveys in...I can't write it even in spoiler tags, you'll just have to read the book |

Woo-Hoo. Go Death.
Just re-read Hogfather today at work and Death really is the best EVER. |

As thread starter I guess I should venture an opinion - my choice is Vimes, for priddy much the same reasons as Chapman B has given - maybe it's an age thing, but I can really identify with his character at times.
