QUOTE (AusChick @ Aug 17 2008, 07:49 AM) Just tell them it's a popular and commonly used phrase in the Western world and they'll probably be pleased to hear it. "Yes, m'lud, many's the night I've put on my cut-a-rug creepers, struck a pose and shouted "Let's Kiosk!" in a London's swinginest nitespots." Will that stand up in court? |

I just got back from a flash mob Kiosk in WeHo. It was mental.
Thanks, Dan, very generous of you to give us a heads up. |

QUOTE (pokemaniactim @ Aug 19 2008, 08:36 PM) Hmm, when I were a lad, we'd hold the cassette recorder up close to the radio and try and keep the cat quiet. Other than that I'm not sure why it doesn't work I'm afraid. New Music added today, hope you enjoy this little lot! |

It's the music that is played when Daisy is recounting her "liasion" with Stephen Edwards in 2.1 (I think!)*.
Cheers for putting that up! ETA: *Or possibly the piece from the end of the episode when Tim and Daisy have put Mike to bed, I'll have to check it now! |

Dan, thanks for the new tunes, been busy downloading em all, love the Sonar Song,it's such a morning up and about tune and one that's stuck in my head is Spanish Wolverhampton (strangely haunting.) A grain of sand reminds me of Kruder Dorfmeister from Germany with a little David Holmes thrown in
Can i pick your brains with a couple of questions? 1- are the drums on face up feet first live or a sample breakbeat?,either way i love em. 2- what sampler setup/keyboards did you use to produce the tunes 3- do you use any 8 bit samples on any of the tunes?,some sounds have that 8 bit grit to them which i know well from using an Amiga 500 (Stoneage computer) for sample mixing years ago and i love the lo fi sound 4-did you sample your own percussion sounds and guitar? 5- Are you still producing tunes together and can we expect a new album? Havent heard a tune i didnt like yet, please upload more . All the best matey from Angle. |

The drums are sampled - could never get the hang of recording drums or dealing with drummers 2. Early stuff was recorded live on an Ensoniq EPS 16+ - straight out of the machine to DAT. No computer sequencing (Cubase or anything like that). Later stuff was recorded as looooong improvisations and then edited on a domestic version of Pro-Tools. 3. I guess some of the sounds are low quality because of space limitations, it wasn't intentional at the time but now they sound just like MP3s! 4. Most percussion and guitar is sampled from one of our occasional sessions of aimless recording in a rehearsal room, then edited/sampled. 5. Not as such, although we all make music together that crops up in various odd places and we do the occasional Live thing where we feel it's sufficiently different to engage with (if that doesn't sound too snobby). One of our favourites is the 12x4 Power Trio - named after the day (12th October 2004) we went completely off in another direction (hello, Derek Smalls), recorded an LP's worth of material that afternoon, split up at 6:30pm and then went to the pub. Reformed a year or so later for exactly the same thing. Raven, thanks for the reminder - you're dead right. |

Cheers for the answers Dan, drummers are usually quite a spiky bunch of miscreants anyway, i love a good sample breakbeat. I would have sold my soul for an Ensoniq EPS 16+ in the 90's,resampleable effects nice!! from what ive read they did have an edgy slightly gritty quality to the sampled sounds but i guess compressing the tunes to Mp3 quality has added to that, but saying that, the tunes still sound great. Only keyboard i had back then was a Casio CZ 101, no sampler on it unfortunately but i used to spend weeks tweaking my own sounds on it I think it's better that you weren't using computer sequencing, that's probably what makes the tunes more organic/human sounding, computer sequencing is just too rigid and and precise, theres no room for human error which can add to a tune. I love a good improvisation session though not done that for years, there's something magical that happens when you sit and play instruments freestyle with a group of likeminded people, i really miss it. Any musicians who've been around a while know those Derek Smalls moments I dare you to bring out a new tune and call it 'Lick my lovepump' All the best Matey, keep on rockin like the warriors of genghis khan |

Wowser, this thread's been here over three years, and I've only just found it!? Dang.
A very belated thank you to Dan Silence, although it would appear I've long since missed the download availability window.... Nooooooooooo! Ah well. I'll have to resort to other means to obtain the SOS tracks, then! |
