Maaaaaybe it's the explanation as to why The Doctor always picks up a companion; pursuades them to join him. Along with the obvious bit of company he has them to remind him of his daughter/granddaughter.

The press launch was shown on Sky News early this morning with interviews by both David & Donna along with a new clip with Donna showing the Doctor sometimes a hammer is better than a sonic screwdriver
