That was nice; and him using the title "Snuff" never even occured to me.
Also reminded how incredible a book Monstrous Regiment is. Will have to reread at some point.

I've already prepurchased mine. I just have to pop in on Saturday and get it.

Just ordered a bunch more Discworld books, bringing my total to thirty-two, I believe.

I don't have any of the Witches books, but I have pretty much all the others. I had a couple of people years ago independently tell me the Witches books weren't very good, and I've been a little put off them since. Are they good?

Also, how do you arrange your books on a shelf? By release date, or in series based on who the lead characters are?

I quite like them (having only read Equal Rites and Wyrd Sisters so far). I do prefer the Rincewind books (the only story arc where I've read more than one of the books so far, so this could all change) but the Witches books aren't bad at all.

My humble collection of 19 are arranged by release date.

I think the City Watch books are the best by far.

Yes, on a par with the Watch books in my opinion. Lords and Ladies is excellent; I would recommend reading them in release order.

I haven't read any yet, sadly. Guards! Guards! is my next one though and I'm very excited to read it. smile.gif

I've read all the books in an order based on this chart:

It's a bit out of date now.

I started doing that and got up to The Last Continent on the Rincewind novels before I decided I wanted to read them in order based on publication date instead. Not really sure why I changed my mind.

You should them in order of release dates. You get to see the world evolving with each book and also catch all the references to previous books as you go as well.

The first few witches books are pretty good. I like them but by the third or fourth one he really knew what he wanted to do with the characters and they become incredible reads. Granny Weatherwax is a brilliant character.
Some of the wizards/Ankh Morpork side of things are tied in nicely; and the later Tiffany Aching books (teen fiction) also tie in really well.
I would genuinely say not to bypass any of the Discworld books. They are all awesome. I am a bit of a fanboy though.

I do rather like the Witches books, but my heart does belong to Sam Vimes and the city watch.

It's been several years since I last picked up a Discworld book, much to my shame. I do seem to remember thinking Night Watch was my favourite, though. I read all the Rincewind, Death, and City Watch books over a summer.

I'm very much looking forward to reading some more once these arrive. I might just order the Witches ones too and get them all.

Same here. The city Watch ones are my favourite, after that it's hard to choose.

Definetely do it Joe. You won't regret it.

I did it. £100 or so well spent, I think.

It sounds like a lot, but I did order sixteen books. I ordered the three "Science of Discworld" books, too.
By my reckoning, the only ones I don't have now are the four Tiffany books, Nanny Ogg's Cookbook, and Snuff (as I'm waiting for the paperback so they all fit together - The only hardcover I own is Thud!, which I also have as a paperback).

I don't own any of the Mapps or diaries or anything, but I do have the Cosmic Cornucopia by Josh Kirby.

I remember it taking me a long time to get through Guards! Guards! for some reason, but by Feet of Clay I was completely in love with the Watch. I'm so excited to read Snuff in June.
