I do think the idea behind V-GER is a really cool one.

Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid (1969)

Sublime. I actually hate myself a little bit for not having watched it sooner.

The Sting next, which I have also not seen but I have heard great things about.

Blimey! You've never seen it before?

Fantastic film. Two very handsome, charismatic leads, being charming rogues, with some lovely things to say about passing eras.

'You think you used enough dynamite there, Butch?'

Prometheus
It was never going to live up to expectations, and it didn't. It was still, however, an impressive chunk of sci-fi. The script had a few cringeworthy moments, but my two biggest criticisms would be it wasn't long enough, and the score was at times terrible, or rather didn't fit the mood in some scenes.

it didn't. Great performances but obvious plot sat in the way of the impressive visuals like a dead corpse of a long dead xenomorph. TOO much was rehashed from Aliens for my liking too. Charlize might as well have turned up her collar. And no amount of Fassbender beauty could cover the holes. Nice enough but not good enough.

Both are great, but I think I prefer The Sting.

I need to watch The Sting again. I've always preferred Butch Cassidy, but I think that may just be because I've seen it more times, so I should redress the balance.

The Front Page - Matthau, Lemmon, Wilder. You can't really go wrong with that combination, and this tale of newsmen trying to report on, and eventually become involved in, an attempt to execute a supposed murderer. Very fast, incredibly funny and a lot of fun. Plus, a very young Susan Sarandon as Lemmon's bride-to-be, Carole Burnett acting up a storm, and a finale punchline that, for my money, tops even "Nobody's Perfect" as a final line in a Billy Wilder film.

Seven Up/Seven Plus Seven/21 Up/28 Up - I've been working my way through the old films in Michael Apted's Up series and my God, they're great. By turns fascinating sociological portraits of Britain in the second half of the twentieth century, funny time capsules and heartbreaking depictions of the twists and turns that a life can take, they're individually very good, but taken together are a really stunning achievement. I'm interested in seeing the films that were filmed during my lifetime now.

Heathers - I had not seen it before and I thought it was great. Bracingly dark, an endlessly quotable script and a very pointed dissection of high school life.

I meant that the WoK-Generations uniforms seemed like a much more realistic continuation from the TV show. If it's canon, it's just weird how Starfleet went for a completely new look in their uniforms (as in TMP), only to backtrack and do a new different uniform just a couple of years later.

I may be completely wrong on this, but isn't the inside of the Enterprise very different in TMP also?

It's never mentioned on screen, but I think quite a number of years are meant to have passed between TMP and WoK (The Enterprise is just being relaunched after a state-of-the-art refit in TMP, but she is relegated to the roll of a training ship in WoK, for example).

QUOTE
I think they think of it as 'pseudocanon'. They've not outright said it didn't happen, but II-VII all follow on from each other and reference events in each-other, and never mention anything at all that happened in TMP. When the probe in IV comes to Earth, nobody says "This is a lot like that thing that happened a couple of years ago, remember? When we went through that weird grey jumpsuit phase?" It stands completely alone among the series as a whole. The events of II are of course rooted in the TV show, thus linking the movie series with TOS. But TMP is completely glanced over.

I've never heard anyone say TMP is non-cannon let alone 'pseduocannon'. Whilst the events of the film aren't directly referenced, the film lays an awful lot of groundwork for the look and feel of the following films and TV series (the look of the Klingons, their ships and language. for example).

When I watched TMP I wondered why nobody said this is just like that time we found the Nomad probe from Earth back in the day.

At least they didn't talk V'Ger to death!

I've never seen Heathers. When I was at school someone told me the end so I've never bothered with it.

GET OUT.

Seriously though, watch Heathers. It's brilliant, even if you 'know' the end.
