It's more because people stopped talking about in the months between its release and its nomination. There seemed to be a lot more talk of The Town getting a nomination than Winter's Bone, which is why it is such a surprise to me.

Actually, Robert Donat won for Goodbye, Mr Chips and Peter O'Toole was nominated for the same role later.

Henry VIII is what I was thinking. (Robert Shaw also nominated a few years after Burton)

I really hope Zimmer bags the Best Score Oscar - he should do, although it's possible Reznor & Ross might just steal it.

I'd prefer Reznor and Ross because, although I like Zimmer's score, I found theirs to be more interesting and atmospheric.

I also want them to win since if they do, and if Banksy wins Best Documentary for Exit Through The Gift Shop, it'll be a great one-two punch of people you'd never in a million years think of as Oscar winners actually winning Oscars.

I really can't disagree with you there, Ed. The Social Network score is very much my cup of tea as music goes, one of the very best film scores I've heard in the last five years or so - I probably enjoy it more as a separate entity than I did with the film. Conversely, I found the Inception score that little more affecting in context with the film. Nevertheless, I wouldn't be at all upset if Reznor & Ross get the win.

I gotta go with Ade on this, while the Social Network soundtrack is cool, it wasn't really stand out and mind blowing during the film, or necessarily added a great deal to what was happening on screen. Zimmer's on the other hand fit so perfectly with the look, style, and plot of the film that while I was watching it for the first time, I was thinking "wow, this is a bloody good score", the same way I did while watching TDK. I can't remember the How to Train Your Dragon soundtrack, and the King's Speech score was very pleasant, but fit snugly and sat comfortably rather then stood out and blew me away. Going to see 127 Hours ASAP, and expect to hear just as fantastic a score as I did during Slumdog.

Javier Bardem in Biutiful is last on my list for Best Actors, but having just come back from 127 Hours, Franco's performance is just one more reason why I'll be gutted if Jesse Eisenberg wins. All of the film's nominations are deserved, (except perhaps original song), but I can't believe it isn't up for cinematography. That landscape and the phenomenal use of light, Ralston's claustrophobic conditions, and the topography, wow, and overall it stood out much more so in my opinion than in The King's Speech or The Social Network.
