I avoided most of that just in case.
But I do love the weight system, it's god to have more flexibility. How do people feel about putting a Spaced Out ME3 Squad together sometime? I've not tried Multiplayer yet. |

I didn't realise for quite a while that you can buy upgraded versions of weapons from the terminal on the left of the cargo bay. The Mk V Black Widow Spectre sniper rifle is a BEAST.

Is 3 better than 1? As good as 2 was, I still enjoy Mass Effect more. Part of it is nostalgia, because I'd never played a game like Mass Effect before it came out.

It's hard to say. The combat is a lot harder (which makes sense) but never feels frustratingly hard.
I really do view these games as a whole, much like a book series, so it's hard for me to differentiate between them. That probably makes no sense. |

I've never played a Mass Effect game, but I feel like I should remedy this. Do I need to start with 1 or 2 or should I just jump into 3?

You really are better off starting with number 1, because even tiny decisions in the first game can end up having huge repercussions later on.
Man I really had to struggle not to say REAPERcussions |

Gameplay does seem to differ between them. I really think Mass Effect is the best sci-fi universe of the past decade, in any medium. It just feels alive, and is so detailed. I love the Codex, I read every article in it. |

My main problem with Mass Effect, and I'll admit it's sort of nitpicking, is that all of your squadmates are basically just humans with slightly different skin/eyes/hands etc. I mean they're all bipedal and can all use the same weapons. Why not some strange unique aliens as squad members?
I feel the Old Republic MMO suffers a similar issue; though as I said its not reeeeally an issue, just something I would have liked to have seen. Edit: I get that it's so the game actually works, itd be difficult to balance the game around squad mates that weren't strictly tied to 3rd person shooting and weren't all roughly the same size for the cover mechanics to work; it just seems a missed opportunity is all. You could make that argument about pretty much any sci-fi series ever though.

Yeah, I want a Hanar squadmate. "This one is going to kick Reaper ass!" |

Well, there is always the in-universe Adventures Of Blasto: The Hanar Spectre! Blasto! With a lover in every port and a gun in every tentacle!

I couldn't find a copy of the first ME anywhere, so I guess I'll just give in and start with 2. The guy at the game shop gave me a look of utter disdain when I asked for it. "Well, everyone scooped up all the copies we had when ME3 came out. You know, a week ago?". Lame.
