The buzz is that Soundwave will probably be a helicopter of some description.

Helicopter? Bullshit.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: have him as a whole DJ setup, a big rig. Then when he transforms you can get away with 3 or 4 meters tall if it's a huge thing. True, it's not colossal, but it's bigger than a tapedeck would be, and it's more in line with his character.

He's Soundwave. He has to be something to do with sound production and recording, and rotorblade sounds don't count.

To be fair, I like the idea of him being a helicopter. With big fuckoff sonic weapons. He deserves a bit of mobility to be able to kick ass with.

Watch Auto-Bop (Season 2), or some of the Japanese episodes. He kicks major ass in those.

And he was a communications, tower. Otherwise Ravage would have been taking a leak on him.

The road was lined with several T-shaped small poles with white tips on, and he was one of them. It was a lamp post.


There he is in disguise.


And here he is as a robot, with another exactly the same object on the other side of the road.

In the show you can see several others along that area too.

Bah, I'll always say comms tower. Lamp-post just doesn't sit right with me.

But you can see the lamp fitting on the second image.... where his cassette bay is. Why doesn't it sit right? It's a perfect disguise.

I was never into the comics and what have you. The G1 show is canon enough for me, even if it is preposterous that they all looked like cars and yet turned into spacey things.

If anything, Soundwave has one of the best protoforms in the show, because it seems feasible in both modes.

The cartoon's great as far as it goes. But you have to remember that it wasn't trying to create anything other than a toy commercial. The comics were too, but they were allowed to put a bit more meat on the bones of the concept, so to speak.
