QUOTE (Douglas Nicol @ Apr 3 2006, 08:18 PM) Robin of Sherwood was great, but the poorer quality film shows through even in the DVD transfers unfortunately. I've been watching it recently on ITV3 (didn't actually watch it much when it was originally on as we were always in coming back from Gran's when it was on) and actually quite like the slightly poor film quality. It adds ambience. Kind of makes you feel it really is the 12th century. Well, it does to me anyway. The other thing, which was a trait of 80s dramas anyway, is the incredibly long spells of no dialogue. It's all scenary, looks and music. But again, I quite like that. It feels more natural. The new series will probably have a much faster pace to it. They've dropped the slowest character Friar Tuck from the series, no doubt for logistic reasons. But I'm sure that majorly fucks up the story, doesn't it? Wife Of Rolex |

I can't think of a story that Friar Tuck was particularly central to...
Did God paint you? Did God paint me? For certain. Why? Because Allah loves, wonderous variety. It's going to have to be pretty good to match that. |

Oh right, maybe that was my lack of paying attention to the story. I just thought Friar Tuck was the link to Maid Marion for Robin. Nevermind.

QUOTE (Wife Of Rolex @ Apr 4 2006, 12:58 PM) Poo! I just read an article somewhere about "updating" older series to be more accessible to the modern audience. It mentioned dropping Friar Tuck. I think they gave the impression that he's not politically correct or his character or somthing like that. |

I think they gave the impression that he's not politically correct or his character or somthing like that. Then god knows what they would do to Robin or the Sheriff, if political correctness was the reason. Regarding RoS, the Clannad music was one thing that helped it. Proper music that is sympathetic to a film or TV series can make all the difference. B5's music, or that in Lord of the Rings are prime examples. |

I went to drama school with him as well. Why, why, why did I have to turn out to be the shit one?

Of course, if they turned him into a positive roll model - who isn't a boy-band look-a-like - that would be a bad thing . . . |

I just discovered a girl I went to uni with is appearing in the new Robin Hood.
Here is her website: Caroline Boulton It seems she specialises in presenting those shit phone-in shows on Men & Motors. But it also says she has featured in Time Trumpet...I haven't noticed. Anyone recognise her? ![]() She was quite intense and rather high-maintenance if memory serves. But good luck to her, I guess. |
