Planet of the Apes (1967)
After having seen Zanuck state that he thought that this was a straight adventure movie, I have to wonder if he has indeed ever seen 'Apes'. Because it's so, so much more. As a comment on evolution, religion, and tolerance (or lack thereof) in general, it's hard to beat. You can see the work that went into this, and it's arguably Heston's finest hour. (McDowall's comes later in the series, as Caesar.) And Serling strikes again. Best ending of anything, ever. |

RDJ was good in Tropic Thunder, but his mumbling is getting ridiculous - I could understand about 50% of what he was saying. The rest of the cast were uniformly as good for me; Stiller included, though Cruise runs it.
I laughed my ass off in that film. I always take it as a good sign for a comedy when I can't remember any of the good jokes. I was laughing too hard to memorise them. |

Journey To The Centre Of The Earth Brendan Fraser was the only reason I went to see this (also because my niece wanted to see it). I went in expecting it to be predictable & have lame special effects, & I was pretty right. But it still had a few laughs & the story moved nice & quickly. The kid in it was a pretty good actor, & the female actress had enough quips & independant chick moments so she wasn't just "the love interest" or "damsel in distress". It was obviously filmed with the 3-D version firmly in mind, & I found myself wishing more than once that I could have gone to a 3-D screening to really get my money's worth. Still, because my expectations were low, I ended up enjoying it. A pleasant, but forgettable cinema outing.  Feel the love. dolfyn.

Goodfellas I've never seen this before but have seen a fair few gangster movies. What I liked about this one is the fact that they end the film on a high, or at least more of a high than most gangster/drug dealer films (Casino,Godfather,Blow.) It was refreshing to see.
