A third post in a row, sorry! This is actual news though.
Series 6 split in two - Spring and Autumn 2011 Love this.. QUOTE Steven Moffat said: "The split series is hugely exciting because viewers will be treated to two premieres, two finales and more event episodes. For the kids it will never be more than a few months to the next Doctor Who! Easter, Autumn, Christmas!!" Just imagine it though.. A double bill of DW and Sherlock on a Saturday or Sunday night! Trevor Eve blasts Who 'focus'
Blah, blah, blah. Eve's worked long enough in television to know that a company is always going to push it's most popular products. And not lame detective shows where the lead does nothing but shout all the time. |

^ To a point that was my initial reaction as well, but then I remembered it was a Digital Spy article and that they are hardly the best source for accurate or in context quotes.

Elsewhere (I can't remember where) it was reported that he said the BBC are promoting other shows with stars that are going to become The Doctor (Implying that about Benedict Cumberbatch, who has reportedly said he doesn't want to be the doctor).
I'm sure Trevor Eve is one of the BBC's highest paid actors too. Diddums. This post has been edited by Everlong: Sep 8 2010, 10:58 AM |

I can see his point about Doctor Who getting special treatment from the Beeb, when Tennant was on everything last Christmas from QI to channel idents it's not an easy one to defend, but I don't think Sherlock has had any more publicity than any other drama series, it's just attracted a healthy following because it has a wide appeal and is actually very good.
In contrast, if I were running Merlin, I think I would be a bit aggrieved by the coverage it is getting at the mo. They only started running trails for it a week ago and there's no tie-in Radio Times cover or article to give it a further leg up. The BBC should be doing more to promote this because it really is a very good little series. |

Yeah, it's a strange one, that. Personally I can't bear Merlin, but it seems that many people do, it's quite popular. Maybe they don't want to ram it down people's throats as they did with Robin Hood.

Yeah, and (in my opinion) Merlin is better than Robin Hood. Strange that it isn't as well promoted as that, but then they wouldn't want to over-hype it as you said. It may well have worked for Merlin though, being the better show.
Doctor Who does get a lot of attention as it is so they could promote other shows more. Though I think with who the last 12 months has been the only mad period (Tennant leaving, a new doctor and companion etc). People are a lot more interested in Doctor Who though. It's a mad amount of publicity, but people are more likely to buy a magazine with Matt Smith on the front than Colin Morgan. Strange, but true. It's the BBC's big money spinner, with the tour, toys, books, DVDs etc, it's making a lot of money back itself. This post has been edited by Everlong: Sep 9 2010, 12:09 PM |

Matt is signed up for quite a while. Benedict won't be Sherlock and the Doctor - who would allow that? Sherlock could run and run. Any suggestions of this nature in the press are silly-boots. David Tennant was a big star anyway - he won loads of awards voted by the public. My mate met Trevor Eve and said he was a shit. No wonder he sounds ungracious and teh jelus. I really don't want to watch a drama about him wanking off over his daughter (the lass from 28 Days Later) either. This post has been edited by Serafina_Pekkala: Sep 9 2010, 01:41 PM |

Oh yeah I know that, he was saying that which suggests to me this is all sour grapes really.
Speaking of his new programme, the adverts made me shudder a tiny bit, when I first saw it anyway. This post has been edited by Everlong: Sep 9 2010, 02:12 PM |

I think of all the Doctor Who wannabes that appeared post 2005, Merlin is probably the best of the bunch (although I do quite like Primeval as well). Robin Hood could have been so much better, and didn't deserve to get a three series run. Thankfully, ITV knew a turd when they saw one and Deamons will never grace our screens again. |

Demons was just awful. Awful.
Primeval's ace, though. Certainly my favourite of the bunch. |

The first two series were the best (so far), the third kind of lost direction (and Cutter, whom I really liked).
We'll have to wait and see what the new series brings ... |

BBC showreel thing, displaying Eccleston, Tennant, and Smith in various dramas, and a little clip of the Christmas special, with Smith, Gambon, and Jenkins.
I'd Quote it, but it's a nice little line I don't want to spoil! HERE |
