I've heard some complain that they introduced too many characters too quickly and no one had any idea what was going on. I can only come at it having read the books, so knew what was happening, but I still think they tried to explain who everyone was as best they could, and the significance of the major plot points. Anyone who hasn't read the books get this?

Anyone who hasn't read the books get this? I managed to follow what was going on and I've never even heard of the books. I really enjoyed it. Reminded me a lot of Rome - not sure why |

I thought it was alright, which must be something as I thought I really wouldn't like it. I'll be watching the next episode.

If it's anything like the books, it'll be more beheady and fucky. Also disembowely. I thought the first episode was pretty terrific. They managed to introduce all the major players quickly and effectively, the cast are all pretty much perfect - Dinklage is as great a Tyrion as I could have hoped for - and the show really feels like the books, right down to the sense of a shared history. It doesn't feel like the story is emerging from nothing, which gives it a lot of the texture that makes Martin's world so fun. |

All the hairiest men in Belfast were recruited for the Extras parts. You'd have sworn it was the 70s again around here for a while.

I also thought that the opening title sequence was one of the best I've seen in a while.

Anyone who hasn't read the books get this? Some people think CSI is edgy and intelligent. I haven't read the books and didn't have any issues following it. I thought there was plenty of potential, but I'm hoping for more fantasy and violence like opening sequence. Otherwise it might end up like "I Claudius"; all the running around shagging was vaguely farcical. I also thought that the opening title sequence was one of the best I've seen in a while. Yeah, it is very cool. |

I thought there was plenty of potential, but I'm hoping for more fantasy and violence like opening sequence. Otherwise it might end up like "I Claudius"; Obviously I haven't seen any more of the series, but if they stick to the book as faithfully as they have so far then it'll be a mix of those two elements, with the latter being more prominent initially. ...all the running around shagging was vaguely farcical. I'd say there is a knowing element to that, though. I think the producers have played it up a bit too strongly to make it clear that they are are definitely a HBO show. In that regard, it reminded me a little of True Blood. |
