She's not a feminist. She's just someone with a steakhouse-style chip on her shoulder. One with waaaaaaaay too much free time on her hands.
And she's wrong, in any case. Uhura was pretty much the strongest crew member on that bridge. |

The article did make me think about something. Had Spock and Uhura already have a relationship before they set out on the Enterprise? Is that the reason Spock said he didn't want to appear to pick her out of favouritism? Because that's what I had thought.
I also used the term feminist because it's become a word that has lost a lot of meaning to the point of becoming ludicrous and is easy to make fun of. But I am glad that people are giving me attention. |

I'm a feminist, but I can't stand Feminist Criticism. It's nearly all utter bollocks.

I think she's slightly romanticised Uhura's character in the TV series too.
QUOTE (Nichelle Nichols) I'd get the first draft, the white pages, and see what Uhura had to do this week, and maybe it was a halfway-decent scene or two, sometimes more, and then invariably the next draft would come in on blue pages and I'd find that Uhura's presence in the show had been cut way down. The pink pages came next and she'd suffer some more cuts, then the yellow, more cuts, and it finally got to the point where I had really had it. I mean I just decided that I don't even need to read the FUCKING SCRIPT! I mean I know how to say, "hailing frequencies open." Also The article did make me think about something. Had Spock and Uhura already have a relationship before they set out on the Enterprise? Is that the reason Spock said he didn't want to appear to pick her out of favouritism? Because that's what I had thought. Yes, obviously. She's totally missed the point and twisted things to fit her interpretation, like nearly all Feminist criticism. This isn't limited to Feminist theory, I dislike most schools of criticism. Marxist Crit is equally tenuous. I'm only really interested in Authorship. |

I am a feminist too and I'm not ugly. I'm lovely. |

Isn't proclaiming to be a feminist a bit pointless, kind of like proclaiming to not be a murderer, it's just something you should be anyway, especially if you're a woman. It seems like a silly badge at times. Or am I just so enlightened that I miss how necessary it be?

One day it won't be necessary, but until then unfortunately it is.
As for proclaiming to be a feminist, yes it should go without saying, but for some young women it's still a dirty word. Anyone who thinks men and women should have equal rights is a feminist, and you'd hope that would be pretty much everyone. This is what a feminist looks like. |

I'm a feminist, but I can't stand Feminist Criticism. It's nearly all utter bollocks. Do you mean you can't stand the critism of Feminists or you can't stand Jo Brand esque man hating rants? Saw The Trek last night. Spock, Kirk and Bones were great. Peggster was funny but really could have worked on the character a bit more. If Chekov was obsessed by ships would he have "Wessel mania"? tee hee http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LAA9SK2sM4...ature=rec-HM-r2 This post has been edited by dabariocca: Jun 3 2009, 02:58 PM |

Some good fan made time-line mash-ups, (and a couple of nerdy bad ones as well) following in the wake of the recent film.
The first one takes a while to get going, but it's pretty funny come the end! |
