QUOTE (Stella MM @ Feb 1 2006, 04:45 PM) I know what he's trying to do with it, really, it's just that Father Ted managed to be daft and gentle and silly AND funny without cliches or gags older and riper than Maggie Thatcher's undercarriage. Read some of the 5,000 Lineham interviews that are floating around. You'll see that that is the whole point. It's a nice sitcom that's simple & silly without being dark & radical. No need to push boundries on everything. |

I thought that Ayaode was superb in both episodes. I particularly liked his delivery of ''I don't remember this conversation at all''. Brilliant

QUOTE (maian @ Feb 2 2006, 05:02 PM) I thought that Ayaode was superb in both episodes. I particularly liked his delivery of ''I don't remember this conversation at all''. Brilliant That was great "Why are you giving me the secret signal to shut up?" In fact most of it was great, I was really amused throughout and it reminded me a lot of Ted in its tone and style. "I like to size up new employees with a good, long stare" Chris Morris may be my favourite. "That's the sort of place this is, full of sexy people, not doing much work and having affairs." All of those quote are a little bit wrong. The shoe storyline was a bit weak, but that's my only criticism. "Don't worry, that's why I always carry two cups of tea." |

QUOTE (Zoe @ Feb 2 2006, 05:07 PM) The shoe storyline was a bit weak, but that's my only criticism. "Don't worry, that's why I always carry two cups of tea." Another of my favourite moments. Most opening episodes of studio-based sitcoms are a bit weak though, especially if they are introducing a new character into an already established situation; instead of having a 'proper' storyline they just have a story about the new character joining. As an opener though it was encouraging and it does seem to be improving already. Here's hoping that it will be really good by theend of this series or the start of thesecond. Assuming that they get the chance to make a second. |

Moss is brillant in Calamity Jen
"4!, I mean 5! I mean Fire!" *Reads*"Stand upright" *stands upright* "Now I can't read it, Oh not me I am a giddy goat!" "I can't go to prison Roy they'll rape the flip out of me!" Brilliant This post has been edited by Oisi-wan Kemansell: Feb 2 2006, 05:35 PM |

He managed it with Father Ted and Black Books so it's not the simple and silly approach that's the problem. |

QUOTE (Stella MM @ Feb 2 2006, 06:19 PM) It's obviously a subjective thing because I think it's funny: "Fast work on the profanity button, you're back on the payroll" And like I said, very similar in tone to Ted. To say it's 'not funny' is a bit unfair, as I don't think it's empirically 'unfunny', it just doesn't tickle your particular funny bone. |

I'll defer to your eminently sensible attitude, Zee-lumps, and watch the second episode before make any more 'unfunny' remarks.

One down and I liked it. A fair few of the jokes were quite predictable but there were still some big laughs in there. There were some old gags in there but they were all given a suitably different twist as to not be offensive. Ayoade and Morris were brilliant, the other two are probably going to have to grow on me.
