It's probably unfair to vote as I've not seen Commando, but Big Trouble is so odd and amusing, I couldn't just ignore it.

I've seen Commando more, and that would usually make me vote against it, but I've gone for it over Big Trouble because of the way Rae Dawn Chong doesn't believe any of it at all, and Arnie's ridiculous attempt at being James Bond by using a throwaway line is utterly hilarious:
"I let him go." |

The best, cheesiest and frankly gayest 80s action extravaganza you could imagine. Riddled with the stupidest continuity errors ever seen and some of the best/dumbest dialogue you could hope for. Truly one of Arnie's finest hours. |

I have a fondness for most of Arnold's 1980s films, but I've gone off Commando since I saw it recently. All the stuff I enjoyed as a kid looks really silly now. His one-liners are embarrassingly bad, and the villians are far too camp. Matrix's assault on the mansion at the end is so much like Hot Shots Part Deux that it's difficult to tell which is the parody.
Big Trouble is inventive and fun, and Kurt Russell is great as the put-upon action hero. |

"I eat green berets for breakfast. And right now I'm very hungry. "
Does it get any cheesier? |

No! I cannot decide!
I love them both like children! Muscular violent children with cheesy quips, sure, but children nonetheless. I'd be inclined to vote Big Trouble... because it is one of my defining films I saw as a child - I must have seen it 60 times by now. But Commando is such a shameful joy, its impossible to put into words the feelings I have for it - "Why don't they just call him 'Girl' George?". Hotdog's article a while back about the character of Bennett was spot-on about how his revenge against Matrix stemmed from a homosexual advance when they were squadded together was rejected by Arnie and so on. I don't know! I've just been watching The Running Man (see signature below), so I'm in an Arnhald mood, but I also watched Big Trouble not too long ago and started planning sequel ideas in my head. I'm gonna have to sit out of this one for now. If I make my mind up, I'll vote - but you may have finally stumped me Sostie! This post has been edited by Kick in the Head: Apr 11 2006, 02:10 PM |

Running Man is one of the few Arnie no-brainers I really hate, maybe because if made true to the book, it would be one of the greatest action films ever. |
