I vote Happy Gilmore cos i like the lines (as in the one Zoe demonstrated):
Friends listen to Endless Love in the dark Damn you people. Go back to your shanties. Hey! You no want breakfast? You can trouble me for a warm glass of shut-the-hell-up. Now, you will go to sleep or I will put you to sleep. Check out the name tag. You're in my world now, grandma! Caddyshack is ace - it has all the greats but i just like Ben Stiller with a moustache shouting at old people. And the dream sequence with the random dwarf. Sefi x |

I'm finding the decision difficult, especially given that I haven't seen either.

Like Happy Gilmore. Not seen Caddyshack, though I realise it has some 'classic' status. I shall abstain from such one-sided voting.

Caddyshack gave me the overwhelming feeling of 'meh' when I saw it, I only really laughed at Bill Murray. Happy Gilmore on the other hand was a much more enjoyable film that is just as good on repeat viewings.

There's some great bits in both for very different reasons.
Of course (no pun intended), neither matches the evergreen Costner in Tin Cup. *joke* |

Let's have a bit less of the anti-Sandler snobbery. To dislike Sandler is to dislike being entertained.
One thing I will say about Caddyshack is that it's one of the few films that Chevy Chase did that perfectly captures that slick idiot thing that he used to do and that nobody else seems to have imitated. That doesn't really sum it up, I have trouble describing it. He's stupid and smart at the same time, often in the same line and it's hilarious. |

Caddyshack for me
to me it sums up the everything good about the eighties - chevy chase, bill murray, kenny loggins, light hearted nudity chevy chase has to be my favourite actor ever firstly for the looks and twitchs he is so adept at secondly because he is in National Lampoons European Vacation - greatest throwaway film to watch Thirdly because he went out in such an eighties blaze of glory bring back the Chasemeister... |

Chase guest starred in the episode of Larry Sanders on ITV4 last night.
I miss him. After the critical and commercial sucess of Earl, do you think Jason Lee might finally be bankable enough for the studio to let him play Fletch?

Both films I caught by chance on TV without knowing anything about them, and both were a pleasent surprise.
Caddyshack has got Murray and a dancing gopher which would sell it to me. And Chevy Chase is in good form. But Happy Gilmore is just funnier. Sandler is Sandler, and that's what you watch a Sandler film for....Sandler (honestly that does make some kind of sense). If you don't like one Adam Sadler film there is a fair chance you won't like many others. I liken him to Chris Farley... funny one-trick ponies. If you find the trick funny first time round you'll enjoy their films. Did Laurel & Hardy venture from their established characters? Did people ever complain that they didn't? Happy Gilmore is his 2nd greatest moment (1st is Punch Drunk Love) This post has been edited by Sostie: Jan 31 2006, 07:37 PM |
