I've blown most of my money buying stuff from the UK that we can't get here. Like Irn-Bru chew bars. And the 'Spaced' Boxset.

Ah yes. Oxygen, or as I like to call it 'the Ovary Channel', has aired AbFab and Nighty Night.

how did nighty night go down in the states? not the most 'family friendly' comedy - it makes six feet under look like last of the summer wine.

You know, I'm not terribly sure how it clocked in ratings-wise, but the critics loved it. Our TV writer had nothing but praise:

That made me smile. Probably not a good sign that it's off Oxygen's sched again, though.... mad.gif

I'm the only person I know (offline) that has seen the show. Personally, I adored it. I'm okay with AbFab (it's enjoyable, but I wouldn't rank it as one of my favorites), but Nighty Night is awesome.

Sad but true: only three of my friends actually get Oxygen. The two who watched Nighty Night loved it, as I did. The one who fucked off and didn't watch it got an earful from me. wink.gif

I saw one episode of Nighty Nite, but thought it was pretty cool. I am not sure if my friends would have liked it or got it. It is a very weird show, but thats what makes it awesome. It is unique and not like the other crap we get here in the states. Same goes with Spaced because noone else can create a show as unique and funny like Edgar, Simon, and Jess did.

I am trying to figure out where to get a good quality non region DVD player, so I can order Spaced and Danger 50,000. Does anyone have any suggestions where I could look? And maybe a player, that if something happens to it, I will get it fixed or replaced.

I would watch Trio but we don't have it. My college has tons of channels and does not include Trio. I'll just have to wait until I order it. Then I can own a physical copy and rejoyce in all the goodies it has to offer. smile.gif

You can buy small-sized units from Amazon for pretty cheap, in the $40 range, and they're fairly reliable. (Though you have to reset the region coding yourself.) If you want a really quality machine, tho, you have to pay more - though it's still a bargain. DVDOverseas.com is good, and this site where I purchased mine - GREAT JVC unit currently on sale. That's a steal, that is. Displays true widescreen w/ no squeezed picture for PAL format discs, 'n all.

Thanks thirtyhelens for your help. I really appreciate it. How long have you been a fan and where did you find out about it? Did you get your DVD and merchandise signed by Nick and Simon. It would be awesome for them to come to Chicago to sign stuff but I think they have already been here to promote the film last year. I would love to meet them and shake their hand. Maybe rap alittle "White Lines". Even though I am not a rapper. LOL! tongue.gif laugh.gif

i had a weird dream last night that i went to buy a dvd ( i think it was alien v. predator) and on the back of the box was a preview announcement that Spaced would be released in region 1.
Why Spaced would be on the back of crap like avp makes no sense, but i'm hoping it comes true.

Did you like that movie? I found it lacking a lot. You could buy the dvd then burn it region free.

No problem, deadshauned. wink.gif

I've actually had the first series only of Spaced for a while, sent by my pal who frequently sent me UK shows and insisted I watch it immediately "because it's about you." LOL, she wasn't wrong. I adored it, but the geekgirlishness for some reason didn't go over the edge till Shaun. Bloody hell, they did it - writ fuckin' larger than life. I was so impressed.

And yes, was lucky enought to catch Pegg and Frostie in LA on the last go 'round promoting the DVD, and they were all that and more. Lovely, lovely fellers. Don't worry, kiddo, you'll have a shot - they'll be back...

i think that by the success of regular shows, networks are going to remove some reality shows.  they're finally seeing that we KNOW this stuff is trash by the simple fact that we're starting to rebel.  we won't put up w/ watching that crap anymore.

so import stuff from the UK.

PLEASE.

yeh, I hate reality t.v., but I do like trigger happy t.v. (however it's brittish...wich might explain some things). and as stated in some earlier posts American T.V. really does suck, most of the shows I actually like get cancelled, like Futurama and Invader Zim. But not all the shows, I like Law and Order, the Daily Show, and Mystery Science theater 3,000. Then again, I am a very weird person...so these might be cancelled because they're really bad but I'm too insane to notice XD.

they're always feeding us this B.S. about how America is a great cultural blend. But we get so few exports, like the "international" section of C.D. stores is full of like Salsa c.d's. I hate going to Virgin Mega (there's one where I live) and sifting through tons of c.d.s to find somthing that isn't crap, the c.d.'s arn't recent either. to get recent c.d.s I have to go downtown, but these are only from Asia, and most are bootleg.

Trigger Happy US got annoying when Dom Joly got 5 other randoms to help him out. Bearing in mind he needed at most 3 giant squirrels as comedic lube for the UK version I got quickly pissed when you see people who WANT to be funny but don’t ever seem to go as far as Mr Jolly himself. I can’t recall specifics; I was very tired thanks to it being shown insanely late on E4 (babies schedules born on a similar schedule usually make it out aged 16 with dreadlocks and looking suspicioulsy like Christian Guru Murhpy [sic?! I hope so!])

What cuts were made in Spaced US?
