Since they are doing a remake ( or "reimaging" as they call it) I thought I would bring up this film. This has got to be my favorite within the horror genre, from the score to Michael Myers creepy mask, the movie still trips me out. As for the remake, I think it shouldn't be done, but I also wonder how it will turn out as well.

No arguements from me. It's the film that made me really fall in love with film and made me aware of what a director does. Carpenter is a god.
As for the sequel...it's got Carpenter's blessing (bet then so did The Fog remake), and Rob Zombie can either be average - House Of 1000 Corpses - or pretty impressive - Devil's Rejects. It may be a bad idea, but I'll still see it. |

They shouldn't remake good films... especially John Carpenter movies.
It's like when they did Assault on Presinct 13. The remake was ok... (it was never going to be better) ... they kept the plot similar... but the original is & always will be the better film. The only Carpenter film I'd like to see a remake of is 'They Live'. That was great, but I think John should remake it, & make it serious.... not as comedic as the original. As for remaking Halloween, & guess it's no worse than making god knows how many sequels to it. - But I won't be rushing out to see it. This post has been edited by Jon 79: Mar 15 2007, 01:29 PM |

I thought the remake was excellent, even if it could've done with someone more menacing than Gabriel Byrne as the villain. Back on topic, I'm not sure I rate Halloween all that much, but then I saw it for the first time very late in the day. Last year - on Halloween, in fact. I mean, I get it's the daddy of all slasher films, and that, at the time, it must have been terrifying. But horror has come on such a long way since then, that when I watched it for the first time, it was quite anticlimactic - I wasn't scared at all. |

The only noticable difference was Steve Buscemi, People saying "I thought you'd be taller", a Hispanic terrorist and possibly the location too, but I can't be sure of that last one.

^ Yeah... not John Carpenter's greatest film moment.
I went off Halloween after waching it for the 20th time (I was a media studies teacher for five years and used to teach it as part of the horror module for the 6th form). John Carpenter really did have a run of amazing films from Dark Star onwards (but not necessarily including Dark Star.. even Carpenter now says it is a movie of its time and he would make it a bit faster paced...).... * Assault On Precinct 13 * Halloween (Do we count Elvis? or Somebody's Watching Me?... they were TV movies, really....) * The Fog * Escape From New York * The Thing Then unfortunately Christine and Starman... But then * Big Trouble In Little China * Prince Of Darkness * They Live... what a resume! |
