I had never heard them (I heard of them) until that clip.  It is like opera mixed with metal.  Could not get into the vocals but they are very talented, nice rock out at the end.  Is that the real ending to the song?

That is the propper ending to the song and it's not a special performance it's just on their live DVD Hullabaloo, one of the best music DVDs I've seen.

I'm not converted. In fact it made me remember why I don't like Muse, his vocal style is absolutely fucking awful.

Yes but such an amazing performance. Everyone should see them live in their life, even if you hate them they will still probably blow you away.

Sorry for the Infrequent posts to what should be the topic that is most near and dear to my heart. Here is what has been rolling around the CD player lately.

Iron Maiden: A Matter Of Life and Death. One of Maiden's RAWEST(in a good way) In a while. Bruce Dickinson's Voice has aged well lending gravity to the tracks while the trio of Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers are in top form. Steve Harris has once again penned some of the most thought-provoking songs actually remaining objective about the Issues at hand and not taking a pro/anti stance and letting the listener make up his/her own mind. one small problem with the disc though is the songs seem to follow a bit of a formula. Slow Intro, Heavy Part, Weird time change, solos, heavy part again then slow outro. But all in all a great album and one that wont leave the CD player soon.

Cellador: Enter Deception. Power Metal from America's Heartland. amongst the wheat fields and acers of corn a truly great metal band is born. These boys have talent and will go far.

Lamb Of God:Sacrament. ehhh, what happened to Lamb of God? One of the leaders in the New Wave Of American Heavy Metal turns in this O.K. album. This is their second on Epic record and it seems something happened while being signed to a major. after releasing 4 of the greatest Thrash to come out in the past 10 years (Burn The Priest, New American Gospel, As The Palaces Burn and Ashes Of The Wake) they release something that is pretty Pantera'ish and in some parts downright singsongy(Not that I mind singsongy, but Lamb Of God doing it is akin to Slayer breaking out in to showtunes) It may grow on me but right now its stands at a solid "ehh"

Personally, I've been listening to these recently (apart from Maiden):

Satyricon - Now, Diabolical. Good stuff, but a bit repetitive.

In Flames - Subterranean. Early stuff, the band line up being almost totally unrecognisable from today, apart from Jesper Stromblad, and in fact In Flames and Dark Tranquility swapped vocalists after this. Anders Friden left DT and joined IF while Mikael Stanne went the other way. Despite this, the album doesn't sound massively different from some of the albums that came next.

Dark Tranquility - The Gallery. Listening to In Flames with Dark Tranquility's vocalist reminded me that I was lacking in albums by DT, so I grabbed this one. Not quite as good as In Flames, but very much the same style and a very good album.

Slayer - Christ Illusion. Again, good, but not exactly breaking any new ground.

You could say the same about Mike Akerfeldt. Just seeing him in a documentary, you'd never suspect it was him behind all the growls.

He is the nicest guy. I saw Opeth in Denmark and he was chatting away in English throughout the gig. He was really cool.

What would be some good old-school metal that I possibly might not have? remember I have been a metal-head since I was six and I have a CD collection spanning about 800 discs so please give me something more obscure than Iron Maiden's "Number Of The Beast"

Give Wednesday 13 a try, he's a little obsdure and he has some fucking amazing songs on offer, I'd go fo Fang Bang his latest release but Transylvania 90210 is just as good.

In The Woods... (best album is: Omnio) (progressive metal with two great vocalists)
They don't exist anymore..and I'm still bitter about it.

Green Carnation (progressiv metal in their early years, now good metal..in the vein of Opeth, only without the growling) (better than Opeth in my opinion)

Just a fav band which more people should have heard...but nothing close to old school.

Green Carnation can be at times close to what you refer to as old school....in some ways...but well, I guess you're thinking a new Queensryche etc..but nope..don't have any good ideas..other than Cradle Of Filth..heh.

Actually, having heard some of the stuff off their next album (they played it at Download this year) their new stuff really is a proper return to form, old school Metallica turned up to eleven. Also it was a good sign that their set didn't have any St Anger stuff from it and in fact, mostly consisted of the whole Master Of puppets album performed live! That was a good night.

Proof if proof were needed that Rick Rubin can make anyone good, no matter how much they may have declined over the years. Neil Diamond was one thing, but if he can pull it off with Metallica then I'll be impressed.

Anyone picked up the new Mastodon album? If so, is it any good?

Some friends of mine love it. But I can't say anything, since I've so far haven't listened to it. The same friends liked the previous albums, but didn't ..uhm love it.
So I've been meaning to check it out because of their rave reviews.
