I think hes great- hes really funny and not afraid to say the most beserk thing ever, sometimes what he says its so near the nuckle its fantastic. Ive loved everything hes done from the 11 o'clock show, though the office made me really uncomfortable. Cant wait to see what him and stephen have up their sleeves next.

His new show Extras starts tonight. I'll be watching as I'm intrigued to see how they pitch the tone of the show. I'm hoping they pitch it like The Larry Sanders Show. That would be very welcome. It is kind of weird to think that Ricky Gervais is buddies with Ben Stiller, Samuel L Jackson etc. I can't imagine that.

I can take or leave Gervais. I haven't seen enough of The Office or his stand up to make a well rounded judgement - although what little I have seen doesn't inspire me to seek out more of his work.
I remember hearing that he didn't do to well at Live 8. After one of my mates heard this, he piped up; "Well, Gervais is the wrong act for Live 8 because he's made a very good living out of laughing at disenfranchised poor people. He's funny but he's probably not the right act for a concert trying to end world poverty." I think there's something in that... |

I think he's the right act for people who can keep their sense of humour, not for those who are overdosing on their own earnest charitable natures.
He wasn't really an act at Live8 anyway, just introducing a band onstage, wasn't he? I'm sure Les Dennis was on Vic and Bob's The Club a few years ago, he was excellent on that too. This post has been edited by fear_of_pop: Jul 21 2005, 02:46 PM |

I have to say that I didn't like him at first when he was on the 11 O'Clock show, but then again its only different styles of comedy really, but at leats he can push the limit as far as he can, but isn't that what all the great perfomers have done before him, may him continue and produce good comedy...

I really liked Extras
I especially liked: "Who are you?" "Nobody." "Yeah, and who am I?" "Starsky or Hutch, I can't remember." "Was that supposed to be funny?" "I dunno, you were in the film." |

Agreed, Sean & Blind. I liked it - don't know why people were so down in reviewing it. It's very different to The Office, but then it's meant to be. I for one wanted it to be - there'd be no point pushing the same gags. It's still got cringeworthy bits, but there's more that's openly funny. Yeah, Andy is a much 'nicer' character.
Stinketta, don't know about repeats. This post has been edited by ipse dixit: Jul 21 2005, 08:40 PM |

I really enjoyed Extras, too. Very painful comedy, just the way I like it.
