OK... time for a Viking to give his 50 cents worth...

I saw ANH back in 77... It's the first movie I remember going to see. I have been SW obsessed. In 1999, I was in the US and went, opening night, to TPM. (I even didn't mind the title)... I laughed, I cried, I loved the political intrigue. I loved Darth Maul. I didn't mind Jar Jar...

Then I saw it a second time... I loved Darth Maul... and I loved... erm... Darth Maul. It did not stand up to the second viewing.

Flash forward to 2002 and I went to see AOTC. I loved it. I loved the Obi-Wan plot. I loved the Yoda/Dooku fight. I loved R2s rockets...

Then I saw it a second time... I blame whoever is Lucas' script editor. He cannot write dialogue (as Carrie Fisher states in "Empire of Dreams"). I feel for Hayden Christenson because he's playing a role that is basically an annoying teenager. He had basically one expression, the ENTIRE movie. There was shit like "We cannot be together..." being spoken whilst Padme is wearing a fuck me leather outfit. All in all it was disjointed... AND... Lucas cut out a scene on Naboo that was probably the best scene that Hayden and Natalie were in! What a genius... NOT!

My prediction for ROTS is that I will love it upon initial viewing... I refuse to comment past that!

I've now read the article about Star Wars in Vanity Fair and it's quite interesting (if only for the section were Lucas is explaining his vision of the story).

Basically he is saying that Episode III will show Darth Vader not to be the totally evil villian he was in the original trilogy, but will instead show him/Anakin to be rather pathetic - but in a monsterous kind of way.

Not sure if that's good news or not really . . . huh.gif

I think what Lucas was getting at in the interview is that Anakin/Vader is a bit of a loser - he's always been the henchman or the bosses number two (*ahem*) - he's never really been the one in charge.

How that will actually play out in the final film is anyones guess . . .

Have a look at this for spoilers and thingies (massive, massive spoilers with pictures and everything). Do it quick, some Lucas Lawyer's probably on the case as we speak.

Man, I don't know what I'm going to do with this film... I queued up for the first screening of Phantom Menace (the first after the midnight screening, mind you) and eagerly filed into the cinema with the 11 other people who were there that morning (the theatre was aghast; they'd had over 200 for the midnight show) for what we hoped would be a momentous occasion unparalleled in the annals of film history, myth, and legend. And for one brief, shining moment -- the first appearance of that hallowed title, and the opening fanfare of the theme -- it was absolutely transcendent. As I'm sure many of you are aware, it was all downhill from there...

To this day, if ever I watch it, which is very, very infrequently, I just skip ahead to the Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon/Darth Maul battle and try and forget the rest of the movie exists.

As I was saying, I'm not sure what I'll do with Revenge of the Sith: Queue up for the first screening a la Phanton Menace, or wait until the final screening of the final day, as I did with Attack of the Clones...
