Southland Tales The Prequel Saga
From what I've read, Part I and well into Part II, I'd say don't get it if you don't like the film (obviously). It gives more detail into the whole world war III background and goes into more detail about what happened in the desert before the film starts. It has made me wonder if the film is as intentionally satirical as I had first thought (it has to be, you can't put things like thermonuclear baby farts and pimps not committing suicide in a film and not intend them to be funny). I think in the book it is trying to retain an element of seriousness as well, which is probably just Kelly trying to have his cake and sleep in it. The real highlight so far has been extracts from Krysta Now's screenplay, which is as good as you'd expect it to be. I've read it now and it was alright but I'd just like to reiterate that it should only be read by fans of the film, and even then just as a curiosity. It doesn't really explain anything that isn't already suggested in the film, although it does explain who Justin Timberlakes character is, which is something I wasn't sure about. And it's always good to know that nobody rocks the cock like Krysta Now. |

Ultimatum
I have often said that a mark of bad films, The Phantom Menace being the prime example, is that you wouldn't care if at the start of a sequel all the orginal characters got fed into a big crusher and everything started again. Ulimatum is a story in the Ultimate Marvel universe in which Magneto decides to get all 2012 on the entire planet resulting in the death of a whole plethora of the Ultimate characters almost as if the wanted to check if you cared about them or not. Unfortunately for Ulimate Marvel one realises for the most part that one doesn't because the line has gone so horribly astray. Characters like Thor who were original interesting takes on the main universes characters have imploded into pegasus wearing dullards. Indeed the X-Men run has been so poor lately that one is quite glad to see some characters be horribly battered whilst others one might care about have their deaths underplayed. Furthermore this whole thing is rounded off with a massive case of comic book death, (something which the line originally refrained from doing,) from a previous comic as if to underline the pointlessness of this Marvel holocaust. |

Doing interviews with Mark Millar this afternoon, including one for Titan's website. Anyone here got a pressing question on Kick-Ass (comic-related) that they'd like put to him?

Ooh, nice one.
Can't think of an interesting question, aside from one he'll be answering a thousand times over, which is what he'll say/his reaction to what the press are inevitably going to say about Hit Girl (I imagine Daily Mail will go nuclear on him).. |

This reminds me of going to see Alan Moore interviewed by Stewart lee when Lost Girls came out. Stewart Lee goes "now obviously we'd like to keep questions on Lost Girls, so if anyone wants to know who would win out of a fight between Swamp Thing and Doctor Manhattan...." |

Can you ask him if he can reveal anything about Kick-Ass 2 ( if as indicated at the end of Kick Ass there is 2nd series) Could you also ask him "can you sign this for Sostie, it was his birthday yesterday and he's a big fan" (it's worth a try) |

That would make a damned cool birthday present. I think I might pre-order the edition coming out on play on March 1st.
Apparently Scott Pilgrim Vol 2 has arrived at home, yay. Did Vol 1 in less than an hour this weekend, so enjoyable. Will be buying Volumes 3-5 at the end of the month. |

Details tbc, Sost, but he will be doing a signing at FP at some point, so I'll give you a heads up on that. Not sure what the score is with vol. 2... will see if it's something we're allowed to ask about.
Steve - got the Daily Mail Brigade question covered too - thanks. |

And on the subject of Kick Ass, Read the final installment, and it was of course as violent a expected. Overall I'd say it's a love it or hate it comic series. I loved it. |

Just finished 'vs the world' and loved it, even burst out laughing at a couple of panels and lines. Shame I've gotta wait a few weeks to catch up with the other 3 books.

In Waterstones there was a new Garth Ennis Punisher comic. It's a sequel/continuation of the (awesome) "Welcome back Frank" arc.....want!

Scott Pilgim Volume 6 - 8th July 2010, apparently
Just a few weeks before the film, nice. Does the film end with 5 or are they doing their own endings? |

Scott Pilgim Volume 6 - 8th July 2010, apparently Just a few weeks before the film, nice. Does the film end with 5 or are they doing their own endings? From the wikipedia page: QUOTE In May 21, 2009, comic writer and artist of the Scott Pilgrim graphic novel, Bryan Lee O'Malley, confirmed on Twitter that no content of the sixth Scott Pilgrim volume would appear in the movie as filming on the movie had already began a month after the release of "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The Universe" with no solid script yet written for the sixth volume. While he had given ideas and suggestions for the final act of the movie, he admitted to that some of those plans might change throughout the writing process and ultimately stated that "Their ending is their ending".
