This is a thread inspired by the Crappy Covers thread that's also going on at the moment.

Whilst there are (too) many examples of bad covers, there are those rare occasions when a song is covered by another artist who moulds the song into another form and takes it to another level. Two such examples of which were both done by Johnny Cash:

Hurt-Cash took the excellent NIN original about addiction and turned it into a song about his failing mortality, a theme that was echoed in the stunning video

One-Again, Cash took a brilliant song, voted best song ever by Q a few years ago, and changed it to suit his own style, pure brilliance

Any other great covers?
