QUOTE (Stella MM @ Jun 12 2005, 10:03 PM) Howdya mean? In terms of actually being involved in the production of it or by creating its comedy ancestors? in 'the day today' there is a spoof fly on the wall documentary set in an office. in the commentaries to 'knowing me knowing you' and 'i'm alan partridge' its mentioned a few times - along the lines of 'wow, that would make a good series', and 'we'd be rich and famous if we did that'. it may all be tongue in cheek but the way they say it makes me think there is feeling behind it. |

Just listened to last week's Charm Offensive (having forgotten the show even existed for a couple of weeks) and it was uniformly brilliant. Excellent Jimmy Carr diss.

Iannucci Oxford Lecture: Don't Fear the Mainstream
‘Success and popularity can be won on smaller channels at less of a risk. So it’s we, the so-called subversives, who are actually playing it safe.’ |

QUOTE (rabbit57i @ Jun 20 2005, 05:02 PM) The Iannucci one sounds like a great idea, the other two the same old half-arsed bollocks. Did we learn nothing from KYTV? |

Iannucci's Second Oxford Lecture.
Talking about traditional sitcoms with laugh tracks & studio audiences: QUOTE ‘While we can as naturalistic as we want, now it’s also time to see theatricality as an added opportunity. There’s a hunger for stuff that demands to be played in front of a studio audience. ‘There’s no perfect solution. There’s not a right way or wrong way of making sitcoms, and we shouldn’t think there are.’ I agree with what he says in theory. I don't mind "laugh tracks" that are actually a live studio audience. It does have a live theatrical feel to it & feels very organic. I have a problem when the laughter is added to shows or when they actually delete some of the laughter. If an audience is there laughing, lets us hear it, & if there's no one there, no laugher please. |

The Thick Of It Special- tonight 10.30pm
I'm so excited, it's ridiculous. Should be a good 'un despite the lack of Chris Langham. |

I missed the first 10 minutes, then a friend asked me to help her move some stuff up to her room, so I set up a tape and left. Returned to find the tape had run out. So I missed the whole bloody thing

In The Loop starts shooting...more or less The Thick Of It: The Movie, but with US/UK criss-crossing (James Gandolfini!), Capaldi and Addison returning, and a little bit of Steve Coogan for good measure.
Reminds me I must get the original series on DVD... |
