QUOTE (Raven @ Aug 7 2005, 04:17 PM) Good though Beginnings was, for me this is where the series really kicked off - but what do you think? I wholeheartedly agree - Episode 2 was where Spaced really fired on all cylinders for the first time as far as I'm concerned. Okay, the opening epiosde was great, but like any good film, the series needed an element of exposition to bring things up to speed. But Episode 2 was by far a major improvement, and really helped to gel those early visual and comic stylings of Episode 1, and it also fully introduced all of the remaining key characters properly: primarily Mike and Twist. The Oddness Quotient was cranked up a few more notches too, preparing us for the wonders of Episode 3. With the 2001, Children Of The Corn and Close Encounters homages (to name just a few), the title 'Spaced' (which I had initially found a little strange, and yet at the same time thoroughly intriguing) suddenly seemed to make perfect sense to me. The '8 1/2 minutes later...' joke was a deft little gag, wrong-footing the audience as it did, what with the cheesy jazz-porn music noodling away in the background (ultimately enhancing the comic effect), but as far I recall I did get it first time around, although it might have only been once it got to the "descale the teapot" bit that I actually twigged - although the hoover did kind of give it away.
