QUOTE (whitey @ Jan 13 2006, 06:46 AM) Surely much funnier to set up a cliched Trek-style Universe and then just have one character who is normal and reacts like a regular person as your lead. Like Hitchhiker's Guide? Might have worked. But I think it could work as it is, if it had better jokes. Trying to do politics in space but not have it be all high minded and philosophical like Star Trek would be nice. I dunno. I like sci-fi, but I just get annoyed with non-alien "aliens". Not that that's at all relevant. |

I hate the robot pilot woman its just a shit character that can rub coloured tube lights... utter crap. As for people watching it and saying it was good, were u watching the same thing I thought the Aliens were all made up 2 look like Peter Kay which was disturbing as was explaing to my mum why something should be funny.

I havent watched it but i will check it out next week, first episodes usually arent amazing at times, its more of the period where you just introduce the charachters so the audience are familiarized and just chuck in a few gags to still try to clinch them. I hope though from what ill see next week it will prove to be good. I still kick myself for missing it though.

Watched this last night. It was ok, raised a few smiles, slight giggles. Enjoyable enough, but won't go so out of my way to watch it.

QUOTE (ipse dixit @ Jan 15 2006, 02:15 PM) Watched this last night. It was ok, raised a few smiles, slight giggles. Enjoyable enough, but won't go so out of my way to watch it. I watched the repeat of this show Sunday. It is well made in film format, I thought it was pretty good for a first episode and I liked it, maybe because I only heard about at work on Thursday and wasn't expecting a comedy that had me in fits of laughter from start to finish. Red Dwarf wasn't that good to start with. The set is super slick and the production almost Hollywood, and Frost and Eldon are good in mostly everything they have been in. The writing on Ep 1 isn't great but maybe the whole thing will come together in the next couple of episodes. Unfortunately, the missus will be wanting to watch Desperate Housewives so I will be taping. The BBC are pratts with their timing. |

I rather enjoyed it. I think it will prove to be an amusing and fun distraction as the series continues. It's not a belly-laugh thing, but I liked the gentle sillyness running right through it, from the actor Kevin Eldon's psychopathic second officer to the disgusting customs of the Glish.

I'm afraid it didn't distract me much at all. Nick's very good and thoroughly endearing but there are no jokes. It looked extremely slick for a BBC sitcom but I wish they'd spent some of that money on better writers. This is - what? - a six part series? It makes no sense to squander such a large proportion of your screen time on such utterly dull preliminaries. They needed to hit the ground running with their best gags or it's just a waste of half an hour.
