Read it on the web-news:
The "Yindie" is us. The Yindie is the follow-up to the Yuppie (Young Urban People). It is a cross-breed between "Yuppie" and "Indie" (Independent). So it is either an independent Yuppie or a Y(oung Urban People)-Indie... He drinks Chai Latte, has a W-Lan and an iPod and tries to be as independent and individuall as he can be. So he doesn't wear jeans by Gucci, but by Urban Outfitters, whose brand-name not everyone knows. The Yindie is between 20 and 35 years old and has a job. Are we Yindie? Edit: The Yinide is permanently googling. This post has been edited by Crutch: Jan 15 2006, 08:41 PM |

'Yindies' sounds frighteningly like the 'idiots' from Nathan Barley.
The idiots are self regarding consumer slaves, oblivious to the paradox of their uniform individuality. They sculpt their hair to casual perfection. They wear their wastebands below their balls. They babble into handheld twit machines about that cool email with the woman being bummed by a wolf. Their cool friend made it. He's an idiot too. |

QUOTE (Henry Krinkle @ Jan 15 2006, 09:52 PM) Sounds cool. Is it a novel? QUOTE (Blind I/O @ Jan 15 2006, 09:58 PM) The magic word is trying. As soon as people see, you are trying, you fail in most cases (except you want to be mared as trying). You porbably go a step further? This post has been edited by Crutch: Jan 15 2006, 09:22 PM |

Well I like chai latte, google, am 20-35 and have a job. That makes me an average young person that isn't so keen on coffee.

QUOTE (Crutch @ Jan 15 2006, 09:21 PM) Nathan Barley is, in my opinion, one of the greatest sitcoms ever made. It's by Chris Morris and Charlie Brooker, so if you're a fan of either of those two you'll know what to expect. It satirises the 'yindies', as you term them, and their culture. For more information see here, or see www.trashbat.co.ck. I highly recommend this show. |

Black coffee for me, hate the iPod, wear whatever fits and is comfy. I am however between 20 and 35, and in about 3 weeks will be employed again. So that's a no for me. And Nathan Barley was a work of pure comedy genius. |

QUOTE (Sean of the Dead @ Jan 15 2006, 09:29 PM) I never know whether to be pleased when someone quotes Barley (whether ironically or not) as, in a way, they're actually becoming exactly like the idiots on the show. Morris and Brooker stitched us all up there! Except in Sean's case. It's alright when Sean does it. Keep it Mencap, Sean! |

And considering I'm probably the only 14 year old to have watched Nathan Barley, I think I can get away with it. |
