Dude, Transformers was all that I held sacred as a child.
Giant spiggin robots, beating the shit out of each other. Devoid (for the most part) of human feelings.
They had guns, and wheels, and guns. Occasionally some humans, I don't remember.... they were big robots. My mates had toys that looked just like them!

I didn't grow up to be all macho, nor did I grow up to love guns, or join the territorial army.

Transformers.... they had it all!
They had a rockin theme song, and sound effects that were all synthy and vocodery.
They never had parents be mean to them, or any bad crap that happened to me as a child.

I shall not go and see TMNT, and I shall not go and see this.

I'm sure it is a technically amazing movie, but, my childhood has had too many things ruined by adult re-watchings, and I don't wanna do that again!

Hey, don't get me wrong, I get a huge nostalgia kick out of watching the cartoons, and reading the comics, as the next man, but let's not get carried away here. It wasn't perfect, neither did it profess to be,

They DID have feelings, albeit not human ones.

The sound effects on the cartoon were usually nicked from Lucasfilm, there were quite a few lightsabre and stormtrooper gun effects in there.

The theme was good, and will probably form part of the film's score.

But Transformers as a concept has been through many, many changes, and the film will just be another "generation", with new fans, and possibly people who will never recognise it.

Diffr'nt strokes, and all that, I guess.

If I went back to watch the old Cartoons, I'd surely notice the sound effects.
But, I just don't want to. After having shows like Astroboy, and old Disney movies wrecked by my adult cynicism.

I think my memories are better left as memories.....

And there's nothing wrong with that. I just think you might be missing out.

Yeah, I hated those the moment I first saw them a few months ago.

At least Pepsi Convoy looked coolish, and I hate Pepsi.

If it was Coke Convoy, I'd have probably bought one....

I have a friend who is a huge Transformers fan who feels exactly the same way (as he also did with Batman Begins and Superman Returns) and I think it's quite sad. If things didn't evolve then they wouldn't improve and move on...I suppose I understand that people are pretty precious about the things they held dear as kids, I loved Transformers too, but going to see this film won't change that, you can still keep your memories, and if you do hate it (which i doubt!) you can have the pleasure of being a smug oldie and telling people it was better back in the day!! biggrin.gif .....I agree with you, SG, in that this movie is just another "generation" for Transformers and whether it turns out good or bad, I think it's just a great thing that Transformers is still alive and kicking, unlike a lot of things from the same era.

"Miiiister Prime, it appears you've been living two lives. In one life, you're a semi-truck. In the other life you are Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots, and guilty of attempting to stop the Decepticon rule. One of these lives has a future. The other does not."

Given time I could've come up with better, but the joke remains.

"Tell me, what good is an oil change if you are unable to transform?"

Don't worry. If I nab some I'll get them to you. If you want them that is. If you don't I'll just use them as cat-litter tray liners or something.
