The Decemberists - The King Is Dead

After a few listens, it already seems like one of their best.

It's better than the last. Sounds a bit Springsteen to me.

I've loved all their records to a greater or lesser degree, but I'm glad that they've taken a break from the proggy song-cycle stuff to make an album of great, simple pop songs.

Thought you'd be interested. It's a mini-LP (CD) - only 6 tracks. Will give you my opinion when I give it a proper listen.

Are you aware the singer Raissa made a few recordings in the 90's under that name. If interested I can see if I can find my copy of the album for you and sort a copy out.

I was indeed well aware, cheers - I purchased 'Believer' when it was released in 1999/2000. I'd forgotten how good it was, actually - and I think it was the discovery of The Mummers that prompted me to give it another listen, actually. Or vice versa.

Anyway.

I haven't heard her other solo effort from '96 though, 'Meantime'. If that happens to be the one you've got I'd definitely be interested to hear it, cheers fella.

It is short, but very sweet. Sounds less "fairground" than the first CD and more "orchestral". Very good
