Does anyone watch adverts at normal speed anymore? At home, nearly all the TV is watched from Sky+ so adverts are watched on fast forward. I have been wondering if this will begin to change the way in which ads are made (more static images, larger writing)? Will it take out the creativity of adverts and we'll end up with a still image of the product for 30 seconds so we can cleary see it even at x30? Or is it not such a big issue at the moment for the advertiser as to worry about it. I'm sure I read somewhere that it has altered things a bit. Not a great deal, but they have changed the way they create TV ads. I wonder if it's also contributing to the rise of big-budget "must-see" advertising, where the commercial is so interesting that it's talked about by the proverbial water cooler. We're so inundated with advertising everywhere we go that they have to do something special to attract our attention. |

We're so inundated with advertising everywhere we go that they have to do something special to attract our attention. It's a good point about "must-see" or "event" adverts. I've noticed more breaks which have been taken up by a single ad; ususally in the middle of a big TV show. Also, adverts about these adverts (a meta-advert?) seem to becoming more common. I agree about the saturation of advertising, even with the joys of PVRs, there are still a lot of outlets for us to be bombarded by companies and their products. |

More than once I've read an article and been informed about an advert "premiering" during a certain show, which speaks volumes about how the perception of adverts has changed in only the past couple of years . I'm not against it in the slightest, I just think it's interesting.
I can definitely see why people get into marketing and advertising as a profession, because the whole thing is fascinating. I can't help but think that if you actually work in the field then a lot of it is like the opening scene in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Two adverts I hate right now, the one directed at old people to go to the doctor if they're shitting blood, ("blood in your poooooooooooooo") and the one directed at teenage boys not to rape their girlfriends. Aren't these things people should already know?

Kate Winslet's "I used to rent videos" ad is probably the most misjudged piece of advertising I've seen for years.

According to the slogan on a radio ad on 'The Pulse' (Bradford based local station), Wilsons - The law firm everybody's talking about!'

I like the advert with the squishy little orange dancing thing. I don't know what it's for, but the orange thing makes me happy in my brain.
