I'm gonna try to get to the Evil Dead one ... I live in L.A. but will be out of town for the Bugsy showing. Bugsy Malone is a fantastic movie.

Last night... was... FAB. Packed house, loads of familiar faces and musical mayhem. Lined up about 2 hours before showtime, which became 2 1/2 as they were running waaaaay late... resulting in my now miserable sore throat, but it was worth it. An OK print of Bugsy which was apparently the cause of the late start (still an amazing film), and a fucking PRISTINE print of Phantom with the genial, bubbly, and totally endearing Paul Williams in the house. Man, he's a sprightly 67 years young. And just saw Shaun of the Dead yesterday and was raving about it.
I took a couple of really crap photos which I'll post later, once I get some more green tea in me and am feeling a little better. *swallow* Urgh. |

I've had a mouthful of eucalyptus sucky sweets all day, Caz.
Okay, as promised... good shots of the brilliant Phantom memorabilia that was on display, and two crap shots of Edgar and Paul Williams I took from my seat (which I think I was frozen into for a short time. Brr.) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I think my camera somehow got switched to 1 megapixel... bah. Anyway, Edgar's got much nicer shots up on the blog now. Best bit of overheard dialogue all night: Edgar: "Is it OK if I come back there and get some coffee?" The adorable Julia of the New Beverly, behind the concession stand: "Of course it is. You work here now!" No more reporting from me till the 10th, I'm afraid. This post has been edited by thirtyhelens: Dec 4 2007, 03:29 AM |

Sooooo... night four of The Wright Stuff. Werewolf. Tremors. Landis. Underwood. Maddock. And a fuckload of very loud geeks.
Really, really terrific night - was pleased to be there with LA Julie who was seeing Werewolf for the first time (she was one of maybe five virgins in the house, and I felt terrible later for nudging her hand up when they called out the first timers and John Landis pointed right at her and barked "What did you think?!"....poor dear totally froze. I promise, I won't do it again, Jules!). As always, it plays like a dream and looks remarkably fresh after 26 years. John L. never, ever disappoints in a Q&A, either, and as per his usual MO he completely took over the mike for a boisterous and utterly un-PC cavalcade of anecdotes. With Li'l Eball Wright sat next to him, hanging on his every word with a faint glint of "I can't fucking believe this!" in his eyes. Brilliant. Tremors was an archival answer print and it looked AMAZING - I don't think it looked that good when I saw it in first run, a true joy to watch after quite some time with a packed house of fans. Underwood and Maddock were also lovely and great fun to listen to. Damn shame we definitely won't be able to make another till the last one on Sunday - Dolls and Head was a possibility, but we got tickets to the strike benefit at UCLA on Friday. D'oh! - so it's swan song for me, Harmonica Caravan and La Jules this weekend. Eyyyy. |

Double les postes: Edgar pimpin' the double bills on one of our local morning shows.
Note: The energy levels of morning "news" show anchors do not necessarily reflect those of the greater Los Angeles area at large. |

I think it's safe to say that morning show hosts everywhere are in no way representative of the energy levels of the human race at large!
I liked that they seemed to have a decent sense of humour though - and a good grip on what was actually going on. There is a really bad morning show host here called David Reyne (brother of James Reyne for anyone familiar with the 80s group "Australian Crawl") who is one of the dumbest people around. Someone came on to talk about a medical trial and he got all excited about the results of the placebos. He said "Well I don't know much about Placebos but it sounds like they were really effective. Can't we start getting these placebos out to the general public so that they can have those benefits too?" |

QUOTE (AusChick @ Dec 12 2007, 04:51 PM) I liked that they seemed to have a decent sense of humour though - and a good grip on what was actually going on. There is actually a great recurring segment on that particular morning show where the guy in the helicopter goes looking for the dag-nastiest, grungiest, junked-up disgusting backyards and they circle around it and play the music from "Sanford & Son". Slightly mean? Yes. And also hysterical. |
