Well. I rather enjoyed that. Also did anyone else notice the Heavy Weapons Dalek from the 7th Doctor story Remembrance of the Daleks in amongst the mothballed Daleks Rory accidentally wakes up?

I enjoyed that too, but spent the whole episode thinking, hang on, is that not Jenna-Louise Coleman? I'm sure that's Jenna-Louise Coleman. Oh, it IS Jenna-Louise Coleman. Can't wait to see how that all works its way out |

^ Yes, I was in that boat as well. I was pretty sure it was her from the off, but it wasn't until the credits ran that I was absolutely sure. Completely unexpected, what is the Moff up to?!
Otherwise, I thought it was yet another episode - in a long line of New Who Dalek episodes - that just had the Daleks there, but didn't do anything especially smart with them. Daleks are as thick as door posts these days. Original series Daleks used to plot and scheme, they used to manipulate situations to their own ends. Now we just get lots of dumb Daleks shouting exterminate . . . *sigh* |

I thought they were really well done....
Doctor: "You find hatred beautiful" Dalek Prime Minister: "Perhaps this is why we've never been able to kill you" Daleks have been so overused so you can't really do much new with them, but they managed to do a little something new here. The conversions, the ones in the asylum, despite acting like basic drones, were creepy too. I mean, they turned dead humans into sort-of daleks. Neil Gaiman confirmed at the Hugo Awards (where he won an award for 'The Doctor's Wife') that he's writing a new episode (and currently on the third draft).

So I'm utterly baffled as to what is now going on with the new companion since I think her name is Clara (?) but this Dalek girl was called Oswyn(sp?). Aside from that, yeah this was another 90 minute episode crammed into half the time, with lots of ideas being skipped over, and a whole awesome setting not explored nearly as much as it deserves. Loved it.

Maybe it's all a rouse; they announced who the next companion was going to be an entire year before she'll be in it and long before they'll even start making it, but it just happened to be the day before an episode airs with her in it.
I'm thinking it's just like how Martha's actress was in a Rose story (she worked for the Cybermen ghost people), and it was just coincidence. It's to throw people off the scent because nowadays we're expecting a big secret season-long hidden plotline. |

^ It was different with Freema; they had her in for Doomsday, liked her and then cast her as a companion.
They anounced Jenna-Louise Coleman was the new companion before the Dalek episode was filmed. Also, Moffat says this. |

Fair enough, I guess I'm just behind. For some reason I thought she was only announced last week, and that she wasn't becoming the companion until series 8.

No, she was announced in March and everyone thought her first epiosde was going to be this years Christmas special.

On wikipedia the new companions name and the character in this episode have different names, but the same surname. So sisters/clones/alternate reality doppelgangers?

Have they actually announced Clara is her characters name, or is that just fan speculation? The only place I remember seeing it is Digital Spy.
