QUOTE (gulfcoast_highwayman @ Apr 7 2008, 04:28 PM) The cameo by Rose saved the whole episode. Catherine fucking Tate (to use her full name) is a big mistake. The Doctor is over the top. That befits a man who lives outside normallicy. His assistant is there in effect to play the viewer, as we see things through their eyes. Having a gurning cow like Tate ruins that, as both now are playing it panto style. Her ridiculous reaction to the Doctor's remark about needing a mate was awful, and a worrying sign of things to come. OUCH… that was even more damning than mine. Granted, the episode was weak… very, very weak, but I thought that CT saved a lot of it from being totally abysmal. She was a lot more subdued than she was in the Runaway Bride, and I think she's going to have the kind of gravitas and balls that we saw from someone like Tegan, who didn't take any cr*p (although kept on and on about getting her job as an air hostess back, instead of having fun with the Doctor)… I think both CT and DT have great chemestry onscreen, which unfortunately, I don't think that DT and FA had. Although FA fit in far better in Torchwood. I have high hopes for this season and am chalking it up to a sub-par storyline! |

I don't know if I would cite Tegan as an example of a good assistant!

I am really excited by Donna. She really does seem original and Rose and Martha are coming back anyway so there isn't any point in just having another companion like that.
Fires of Pompeii does look pretty good! |

QUOTE (Hamish @ Apr 8 2008, 11:18 AM) Indeed - it was actualy shot at the legendary Cinecitta Studios just outside Rome. Nick & I made a pilgrimage to the place quite a while back - there is still much magic to the studios, with many leftover props from the sword & sandal epics of the 50s & 60s still very much evident. Richard Dawkins in Doctor Who.
Any takers on Davis taking a pop at religion in one of the later episodes? |

I tell you one thing that I do miss... the old classics where they're back in the dark or middle ages for at least some amount of time... Kinda like the Time Meddler or The King's Demons...
