The passing of Mr Blackwell probably won't be mourned by many.
Why did people give this bitchy old queen so much attention - if the US media hadn't have paid any attention to him, then he'd have just slinked off to Florida and retired quietly. He supposedly died of an intestinal infection - maybe all that mild bile he spewed every year found it's way into his bowels. The yahoo reported used the word "legend" - these days this particular piece of lingual currency is more devalued than the German mark after WW1. He was only a "legend" because bored and lazy journalists slavishly gathered outside his house every year to see him step outside the gate and deliver his damning verdicts on celebrity fashion in a Luthor-like manner. Oh, and there's nothing particularly clever about speaking in rhyme - it's very childish. "This season, many will gloat... ...because I'm wearing a wooden overcoat." See - I can be childish, too. If by "cared" you mean that he irritated me in life to do the literary equivalent of a jig on his final resting place, then, yes - I cared.

Whilst I may not be mourning the passing of Mr Blackwell, I AM sad to see that blaxploitation great Rudy Ray Moore has gone to perform his stand-up routine to St Peter.
 With the death of Isaac Hayes so recently, it comes as a bit of a shock to read of the cessation of life of another member of that unique band of seventies movie stars. Frank 'Lefty' Rosenthal.
He was the basis for Robert De Niro's 'Ace Rothstien' in Casino, and was a bit of a shit in real life, unsurprisingly. He died on 13th October, but I only caught it in the Grauniad obits. |
