Just seen some screen shots of the new version of The Great Gatsby. I'm torn because I love the novel and I think DiCaprio and Maguire are going to be amazing but I think Carey Mulligan is totally wrong for the part. I've yet to see it made into a decent film, I watched the Redford one at A Level and I got about fifteen minutes into the Paul Rudd version before having to turn it off, I'm hoping Luhrmann can do it justice but I'm not sure I'll be able to get past Carey Mulligan.

Since I've never read the book (or indeed seen any of its previous adaptations), I have no frame of reference, so I don't hold any particular expectations. I do, however, appreciate the high regard in which the book is held by so many, and can fully understand all the trepidation given Luhrmann's particular style.

I don't think it looks that bad to be honest. It certainly looks a fuck sight better than the Stallone attempt a few years back, purely because A: He doesn't have a giant codpiece on his suit B: Karl Urban is 25 times the actor Stallone is and C: It doesn't have Rob "Derpa derp herp" Schneider in it.

'Avatar': Three sequels to shoot simultaneously.
Three?! For the love of God, why? (I mean, apart from the sh*t load of money the first one made . . .). |

The story of Avatar was the only real let-down. The world itself was fantastically realized. So with a better story, the sequels could be genuinely good.

^ I don't hold much hope for them being any better because I believe Cameron is writing them as well. Good director, bad writer (also see: Titanic).

Looks like they suffer from the same problem the Star Wars prequels did: brilliant setting, rubbish story. Given the exact same cast and locations, but a different writer, they both could have been really great films. |

^ Possibly, if you got rid of Hayden Christian. And Jake Lloyd. And got a better director.

Release dates for the next 4 Marvel movies
Iron Man 3 - May 3, 2013 Thor: The Dark World - November 8, 2013 Captain America: The Winter Soldier - April 4, 2014 Guardians of the Galaxy - August 1, 2014 Also, Edgar Wright has produced/directed test scenes for Ant Man, (guess they'll announce the date for that late this year/early next year when he'd done with World's End and can concentrate on it). |

^ Sounds good.
The Man of Steel goes down well with the fans. I'm looking forward to seeing this one as well. |

Ooh, I wasn't expecting them to use The Winter Soldier for Cap 2. That could be very interesting, especially if they get Sebastian Stan back to play Bucky / Winter Soldier, as I felt he was a bit under-used in the first one.

Me too. Let's just hope it's not all slow motion and snazzy camera angles. It's a shame they're not using the Williams theme, because it really is iconic. I completely understand their reasons though, and they make sense. I'm still really dispassionate about the Justice League movie idea. It screams Avengers cash-in, except that it won't make any sense. The whole idea of the Justice League barely makes sense anyway, let alone with almost nothing leading up to it. I read a bit of the recent New 52 comic series of JL and enjoyed it, but it did rely on you knowing who everyone was. I doubt there will be a movie of The Flash or Wonder Woman any time soon, and Aquaman just ain't happening. I'm assuming those are the only ones they'll want to include. Ryan Reynolds I think would come back to play Hal Jordan, but I really don't think they could afford what Christian Bale would ask for playing Batman. Justice League is such a "comic logic" thing anyway, I think it's probably too silly to work. Superman is basically indestructible and can do whatever the writers want him to do, and Green Lantern can make literally anything he wants using only his mind. Both of them can fly in space. What use is a rich sociopath with some cool gadgets compared to them? I always thought the idea of Batman's detective mind being important let him in, but what the others? A man who can talk to fish, and another who can run really fast? Two of the JLA are practically gods, why would they need others? All these questions can be glanced over in comics, but I don't see it working as a film for one second. This post has been edited by GundamGuy_UK: Jul 16 2012, 12:20 PM |
