As a slight aside - can anyone think of a show (or film) that they really loved which was revisited after a gap of several years and didn't disappoint at least a little? Nothing springs to my mind, but there must be some out there, surely? Eh?

I quite enjoyed the movie version of The X Files and am looking forward to the second one being released this year.

The world has changed alot over the last seven years or so and I would be interested in seeing how that would affect a new series or movie, if it happens. But I wont hold my breath, as each of them have terrific careers and probably don't have the time to write anything.

But it is always fun to speculate.

They were more reboots, than re-visitations, though.

I'm having trouble what constitutes a re-visitation. Is Color Of Money a sequel to The Hustler or re-visitation? Before Sunrise & Before Sunset?

Battlestar Galactica?  Doctor Who?

Battlestar Galactica was a complete remake.

Doctor Who is a slightly different case because although it is the same series, because of the format of the show none of the actors/actresses were the same (and although they kept a lot of continuity, it was - as Glenn said - pretty much a reboot).

I think what Reb is getting at is updates like This Life, To the Manor Born etc, rather than complete reworkings.

I'm thinking something with the same actors, or at the very least, the same characters, a few years further along their timeline in the same universe (for want of a better word).

That's because not many series are revisited... and the one that are, rarely have the same cast or writers. ...and out of those, very few of them are sitcoms.
I say 'very few' but I can't actually think of any, let alone any bad ones.

...ok, I've only come up with Blackadder: Back and Forth. *
Which wasn't as good as it used to be,... but it's probably worth reminding everyone that Simon & Jessica are not Ben Elton.

Can anyone think of any more?

It's going back a while, and I can't remember seeing it myself, but isn't Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads pretty well regarded?

I never saw that (a little before my time) but the imdb votes place it better than it's original series that finished seven years earlier.
