I know they do this on Radio 2 on Mark Radcliffe in the afternoon, but it could give a quite interesting insight to the musical mind of the forum member! Put down the name of each song and the artist who recorded it, and if you like tell us why you have chosen each track or what people or occasion the song reminds you of.
1. The first record you bought? 2. The song that led to your first popstar crush? 3. The song that reminds you of your first true love? 4. A song that's guaranteed to make you dance? 5. Your favourite holiday track? 6. The song you'd most like to sing on stage? 7. The most embarrassing record you ever bought? 8. The one song you wish you'd written? 9. The best guitar riff ever 10. Your favourite love song? 11. The track that reminds you of your best mates? mine are: 1. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody 2. Blondie - Denis Denis. How hot was Debbie Harry back then?!?! 3. Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls 4. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama. Always get my boogie shoes on to this one! 5. Wham - Club Tropicana. God how embarrassing - but reminds me of my first holiday away with the lads - Club 18-30 in Ibiza! 6. Foo Fighters - Best of You. Went to the Wembley gig last month - best gig ever! esp. when John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page appeared on stage for the encore - fuffin amazin! 7. Once bought Madonna's Holiday................ 8. The Boxer - Simon and Garfunkel. Tough choice this one, but I suppose I will have to go with this as it is great musically and lyrically 9. David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust. Mick Ronson at his best! 10. The Cure - Just Like Heaven. Our first dance when we got married - beautiful song 11. The Smiths - Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now. Reminds me of Uni and many a drunken night listening to The Smiths - also singing along to Mozza at Glasto. OK - now you turn This post has been edited by Bloomeeney: Jul 15 2008, 09:53 AM |

1. The first record you bought?
7" - either Absolute Beginners by The Jam or Flash by Queen 12" - Wham Rap - Wham LP - Anthem - Toyah CD - Alvin Lives In Leeds - a compilation of indie faves such as Lush, Cud etc doing covers of 70's songs. 2. The song that led to your first popstar crush? It's A Mystery - Toyah 3. The song that reminds you of your first true love? Personal Jesus - Depeche Mode 4. A song that's guaranteed to make you dance? Get Down Tonight - KC & The Sunshine Band Whatcha Gonna Do - Small Faces Actually it's a pretty huge list. Alcohol intake probably more of a decision maker these days when it comes to me dancing. 5. Your favourite holiday track? Bigmouth Strikes Again - The Smiths 6. The song you'd most like to sing on stage? If I could sing, The Look Of Love by ABC 7. The most embarrassing record you ever bought? I have a lot of what people would consider dross in my collection - Kylie, Madonna, Shampoo, Spice Girls etc But I stand by those purchases. For someone who hates Red Hot Chili Peppers I do seem to have a lot of their stuff. Enter Shikari! Actually they should be embarrassed for making their album. 8. The one song you wish you'd written? Financially, Yesterday by The Beatles. Otherwise anything by my favourite song writers - Nick Cave, Morrissey, Tom Waits, Bowie 9. The best guitar riff ever How Soon Is Now? - The Smiths Ace Of Spades - Motorhead (it's a bass riff, but it counts) Anarchy In The Uk, Pretty Vacant & God Save The Queen - Sex Pistols 10. Your favourite love song? Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want - The Smiths 11. The track that reminds you of your best mates? Rocks - Primal Scream A Wish Away - The Wonder Stuff |

1. The first record you bought?
A floppy 7" of Puss N Boots by Adam Ant that I sent away for with tokens plus cash from Rice Crispies. 2. The song that led to your first popstar crush? Embarrasingly it's I Want Your Love - Transvision Vamp. 3. The song that reminds you of your first true love? First true love is a bit strong but The Other Side - Aerosmith always reminds me of my first real girlfriend. 4. A song that's guaranteed to make you dance? It more depends on my mood rather than the music, not that I'll dance to any old rubbish mind. I guess I'd physically find it hard to not at least toe tap/hand clap/hip shake if I heard Dance Wit' Me - Rick James sexing it's way through the speakers. 5. Your favourite holiday track? I don't think I have one. Which holiday? Summer? I don't have one. 6. The song you'd most like to sing on stage? Rock And Roll - Led Zeppelin 7. The most embarrassing record you ever bought? I'm pretty sure I had a cassette single of Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers. Good God. 8. The one song you wish you'd written? That is such a difficult question. So many for so many different reasons technically & emotively. But I'll stick my neck out & say Hurt - Nine Inch Nails. It's pretty much a masterpiece. 9. The best guitar riff ever Hmmm I'd never go as far as to say what was the best ever but favourites of mine would be... I Wanna' Be Your Dog - The Stooges Voodoo Child - Jimi Hendrix Johnny Be Goode - Chuck Berry Make of that what you will. 10. Your favourite love song? Into Your Arms - The Lemonheads 11. The track that reminds you of your best mates? Sabotage - Beastie Boys |

1. The first record you bought?
single: Turtle Power - Partners in Crime Album: Sing The Blues - The Simpsons 2. The song that led to your first popstar crush? I should be so lucky! 3. The song that reminds you of your first true love? Yellow - coldplay 4. A song that's guaranteed to make you dance? You never can tell - chuck berry 5. Your favourite holiday track? Don't wanna miss a thing- Aerosmith, (not really my fave track, but is the one that most reminds me of a specific holiday) 6. The song you'd most like to sing on stage? Life On Mars? - Bowie 7. The most embarrassing record you ever bought? Can't really think of an album,... but I bought that bryan adams, robin hood single! 8. The one song you wish you'd written? There She Goes - The La's 9. The best guitar riff ever ziggy stardust 10. Your favourite love song? Can't really think of one. (sometimes it's hard to tell of a song is actaully a love song and not just a track about heroin... for instance)... so for now, I'll say satelite of love - lou reed. 11. The track that reminds you of your best mates? Do you remember the first time? - pulp |

1. The first record you bought?
I'm really not sure which came first, but it was either the England World Cup Squad of '82 singing "This Time" or the theme from Fraggle Rock! (though it's been a long and rocky road, my taste in music has improved considerably since the early eighties!). 2. The song that led to your first popstar crush? Not so much for the song, but it was probably "Happy Birthday"(?) the crush being C.P. Grogan (or possibly Nena, following 99 Red Balloons). 3. The song that reminds you of your first true love? I'll let you know when it happens! 4. A song that's guaranteed to make you dance? Dancing, and singing for that matter, aren't really my forte, but I've always liked "Reet Petite" by Jackie Wilson and "Come On Eileen" by Dexy's Midnight Runners (and that's nothing to do with its usage in Spaced). 5. Your favourite holiday track? I don't know that I have one, but the soundtrack to Sideways always makes me think of summer. 6. The song you'd most like to sing on stage? I did it in school, and I can say that I have absolutely no desire to sing on stage again! If I did have to sing publically though, like for Karaoke or something similar, I would have to go for a song that went down well, but it would have to be Lewis singing Private Dancer good! 7. The most embarrassing record you ever bought? "Hi Fidelity" The Kids From Fame. 8. The one song you wish you'd written? Anything that made the writer a big sack of cash! 9. The best guitar riff ever? Mark Knoffler, Telegraph Road. 10. Your favourite love song? No idea, not my bag at all! 11. The track that reminds you of your best mates? I don't really associate any kind of music with my friends, as I've never really done anything musical with them. If I were talking about some people I went to Uni with I would have to say "Yes", because we spent most of the summer driving around Southsea listening to one of their albums. If I were talking about people on here, I think I'd have to say any of the music from Spaced - for obvious reasons! |

1. The first record you bought?
It was definitely one of the 'Now..' compilations, but I'm not sure which one. If you're talking proper album it was either Madonna's 'Immaculate collection' or Michael Jackson's 'Bad'. 2. The song that led to your first popstar crush? 'When I Come Around' - Green Day. I had a short term crush on Billie-Joe Armstrong but only for the duration of this video. He later got porky and then started wearing eyeliner. 3. The song that reminds you of your first true love? There are quite a few songs actually, if I had to pick one 'You're the first, the last, my everything' by Barry White. 4. A song that's guaranteed to make you dance? Pretty much anything. I don't have to be asked twice! Intergalactic - Beastie Boys Anything disco/funkadelic. 5. Your favourite holiday track? Listening to the Beach Boys always makes me feel sunny, does that count? Mmmbop by Hanson also reminds me of my most hilarious holiday ever. The song you'd most like to sing on stage? Ol' Man River (only kidding) I'd just like to be able to sing. Anything. The most embarrassing record you ever bought? 'Lets get ready to rumble' by Ant and Dec aka PJ and Duncan. The one song you wish you'd written? Something that got banned like 'God Save the Queen' by the Sex Pistols. The best guitar riff ever This is hard since I love too many. All the ones mentioned so far pretty much kick ass. Off the top of my head... 'Back In Black' - AC/DC 'I Love Rock and Roll' - Joan Jett and the Blackhearts 'Come As You Are' - Nirvana (whether it was ripped off Killing Joke/The Damned or not, 'tis still excellent.) Your favourite love song? I guess I answered that in Qu. 3 The track that reminds you of your best mates? Could be one of hundreds but I'm going for 'Where It's At' by Beck. Brings back some really fun memories. This post has been edited by melzilla: Jul 15 2008, 05:43 PM |

1. The first record you bought?
Can't remember for sure now. I think it may have been Superunknown by Soundgarden. Or possibly Smash by The Offspring. 2. The song that led to your first popstar crush? The music itself usually has nothing to do with it. Christina Scabbia from Lacuna Coil happens to be a decent singer and is very hot indeed, but those things aren't really related. 3. The song that reminds you of your first true love? Nevermore - The Seven Tongues of God. She sent me that song to get me into Nevermore when I first met her. 4. A song that's guaranteed to make you dance? No song can. Unless air drumming counts. 5. Your favourite holiday track? Holidays... music... there's no connection whatsoever. 6. The song you'd most like to sing on stage? If I had the ability, then Cthulhu Dawn by Cradle of Filth. Since I don't I'd probably go for something easier like Pearl Jam. 7. The most embarrassing record you ever bought? Probably Limp Bizkit... Why did I ever like them? 8. The one song you wish you'd written? Pushit - Tool 9. The best guitar riff ever Hard to pick just one... Lamb of God - Ashes of the Wake (1:50) Pantera - This Love (after the second chorus) Emperor - The Source of Icon E (1:30) 10. Your favourite love song? My Dying Bride - A Doomed Lover 11. The track that reminds you of your best mates? Er, nothing. My friends usually like stuff I never listen to. |

QUOTE (Nonus Aequilibrium @ Jul 15 2008, 07:42 PM) Sadly, you're not alone, there. Although I still don't think the first album is that bad, before Fred Durst's head expanded to the size of a Volvo. QUOTE (Nonus Aequilibrium @ Jul 15 2008, 07:42 PM) Yes! |

QUOTE (Nonus Aequilibrium @ Jul 15 2008, 07:42 PM) 6. The song you'd most like to sing on stage? If I had the ability, then Cthulhu Dawn by Cradle of Filth. Does it really take that much "ability" to sing this, or any other Cradle Of Filth track? QUOTE (Nonus Aequilibrium @ Jul 15 2008, 07:42 PM) Yup! I got it too. |

QUOTE (melzilla @ Jul 15 2008, 07:52 PM) More evidence that Mel = awesomeness. And any discussion of "best riffs ever" that doesn't involve at least one mention of Dimebag Darrell is just utterly wrong. QUOTE (Sostie @ Jul 15 2008, 09:12 PM) Very much so. It may not be conventional "singing" as such and you may not like the way it sounds, but Dani Filth is an incredible vocalist with a huge range. The song that reminds you of your first true love? Don't Stop Believing by Journey 4. A song that's guaranteed to make you dance? Pretty much anything, I even do the 'walk to the dancefloor' 5. Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi, although I'm a bit tired of hearing it (our local radio station loves it), it reminds me of us singing at the top of our voices in the pub on a Sunday night.
