'The Happening' (2008) They say "happening" a lot, and it's probably the funniest film I've seen since the 'Wicker Man' remake. I happened to see the 'Wicker Man' remake recently - it is quite hilarious. The Last Seduction So long since I've seen this. Bridget is one of my all time favourite characters. That is a superb film, and one that I haven't seen in quite a while either, actually. Plus, Linda Fiorentino is quite the fox. Most definitely warrants another viewing soon. I must also add a thumbs-up for Working Girl. |

I do think that the direction throughout is actually quite solid. The scene where they come across all the people hanging from trees was particularly eerie, it's just that the material is so all over the place. Like 'The Invasion' or 'Survivors' the other week, or the countless other times I've seen that image, it always reminds me of 'The Hanging Stranger' by Phillip K Dick, and makes me wonder why they haven't just made a film based on that. I'm not sure any of the ideas in 'The Happening' deserve any credit, and I still think the direction is utterly bizarre. That said, I enjoyed it, sort of, maybe just because it was such a strange and slightly dreadful film with woefully (and apparently willfully) bad performances. Zooey was outstandingly bad/hilarious. |

I really must see that soon, if only to laugh in appalled disapointment at it.

One day, he'll make a movie where the twist is that it's actually good.

I sat there most of the time thinking ''Surely she's going to do something good soon, right? This can't be all she can do.''

Elf
Quite a lovely Christmas film. A few laughs and predictable as any kids Christmas film is expected to be but Zooey is just so very very pretty. I may have to invest in a bigger tv just to get her eyes even remotely close to life-size. |
