The release date should relate to when it was released in the country you saw it in, not when it was first released. For example, the Japanese film Departures is a strong contender for my list, but that was released in 2008 in Japan. I'm going to wait a few weeks until I post mine since there are at least two films I'm seeing later this month (Catfish and The King's Speech) which I hope will be included.
