(I didn't see a topic yet so delete this if I missed it)
Here's the FULL LIST OF NOMINEES. Once again there are very few surprises as it has now become the norm for people to be pissed off at obvious snubs and the oversight of talented individuals. Disappointed: - The Academy is aware Andy Serkis is a real-life non-CGI human being, right? - Drive gets precisely one nomination (sound editing). That's one LESS than Transformers. - Tintin not deemed good enough for a Best Animated nod. - Where's Buck? Pleased: - Finally Gary Oldman gets some recognition. - Bret McKenzie ftw! Thoughts? Disgruntlements? Discuss. |

Not seen a fair few on the list, but there are some good noms in there. Christopher Plummer for Beginners I'm especially pleased with, it's a masterful performance.
Also happy to see Viola Davis & Octavia Spencer get nods for The Help, and Kristin Wiig for the Bridesmaids screenplay. And Gary Oldman, finally nominated! |

So happy Oldman got a nom (though not his best role). Though I'd be happy if he, Dujardin or Clooney win
Not surprised by it's omission, but Jared Harris for supporting actor in Sherlock Holmes would have been nice. The Artist will sweep the board i think. And that won't be a bad thing |

It seems to be between The Artist and The Descendants based on the previous awards ceremonies, but I think The Artist has the edge just based on how many more nominations it has.
This seems a pretty disappointing showing compared to last year, particularly in terms of the supporting actor/actress categories. Either Albert Brooks or Patton Oswalt deserved a nomination for their work in Drive and Young Adult, respectively. I also think that Kirsten Dunst should have been nominated for Melancholia, though I imagine that Lars' choice comments probably scuppered that campaign before it had even begun, which is a shame, since I don't know if she'll ever get a role that good again. |

Wow, I totally forgot about Melancholia. Despite Lard Von Tryhard acting like a twonk, some kind of recognition for an unarguably great film should have been awarded.

I think Jim Rash is a pretty safe bet to get an Oscar at this point. Payne's got a good track record when it comes to winning for writing, and if The Decendants doesn't win any of the major awards it is nominated for then it might pick up Screenplay.

I had until Zoe mentioned it on Twitter. It's a great film, but the response to it has been so muted in the months since it was released that it seems to have faded out of the conversation. |

Is a poll worthwhile? Anyone bothered? Well you've got one anyway. I think, unless I've screwed it up.

No, it's there. I'd vote, but I've only seen War Horse.

Why didn't I think of this? And the award for Best Original Deanplay goes to… |

I also think that Kirsten Dunst should have been nominated for Melancholia, She was good but not that good IMO. Or rather - her role was not Oscar material. Tilda for Kevin is another omission. The Oscars are mostly middling films picked by people with obvious taste. I don't want to see The Help. I have heard very bad things from friends. But i am not really into Oprah's book club films. Tree of Life was long winded pish. |
